hi all,
have signed up for the fun run this year, have done some research for good running shoes but am still confused as to what to buy. Is gel soles better or air soles ? so much hype about both but i just cant get myself to pay big $$$ for running shoes.
I dont mind paying within reason but has anyone else had any experience with good running shoes which they can recommend ??

thanks.

How much the shoes cost is not half as important as making sure you get shoes that are the right design for your feet, and the way you run.

Some shops have a treadmill onsite so they can analyse your foot-strike, which will help them recommend the correct type of shoe for you.

Running can be very damaging on your body, so don't feel bad about spending more for a pair of shoes that will save your knees and lower-back from injury.  How much is the health of your body worth to you?

I can also recommend that you purchase socks designed for runners.  They cost more, but your feet will be forever grateful.

Unfortunately, there are no gurantees.  You can buy what should be a great pair of shoes and then discover they cause blisters.  There is a certain amount of trial and error involved in order to discover the best brand/model.

ps. I was a competitive runner for several years, gave it up a long time ago for Yoga, which I now teach.

I couldn't agree more with Quidam

Couple years back when I was more into running, I spent what I thought was a fortune on some good running shoes.  It does make a huge difference, they last longer, plus you feel better after the workout.
