My wife is a teacher. She's just been returned many, many days of sick leave that were wrongly taken from her.

Some teachers have been returned in the order of hundreds and hundreds of sick days.

So not only Holiday Leave entitlements being wrongly interpreted. Just that NovaPay, EdPay and Ministry of Ed are particularly good at misinterpreting, stealing leave, and refusing to engage with any over it when questioned.

Assuming you're still on the payroll why are they asking for information they already have?

I was wondering that too.

But you said “I think this is related to a job I held ….” - which implies that you are not currently on the payroll.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Your payroll records don't disappear when you leave.

I did ask the payroll manager what my job title was when I was there, as verification.

He was very annoyed, and said "Well I did call you, and use your name. Isn't that enough."

At which point I gave up probably prematurely, hearing a huge number of people on calls in the background,

My address and bank details are still the same from when I worked there.

Additionally why are they asking for absolutely everything in the form of a PDF file, if they are only giving a refund?

child support information
Kiwisaver information
court fines, WINZ payments, ...

They need the info to correctly calculate what’s owed to you after those standard deductions during that period of time.

Ive been thru the same process a couple years back (not govt or health or education related).

  • net net, I got some cash (enough for a decent dinner or three I think), but then got stung for secondary tax and ended up paying that plus year end tax return i was then having to pay the IRD instead of them paying me / paying nothing.

Honestly I think I'm going to ignore this request.

I never worked during a holiday.

The cost of having all my information stored with an unknown company, who don't seem serious about security, is not worth it.

I'd feel differently if the email had a my first name surname and job title, and employment dates

And asking me to fill out a blank PDF and email it back is just year 1993 computing.

you could always print, fill it out and deliver it yourself.

also, I don’t think you understand what they are trying to correct for you.

were you a salary worker? (Then if so, the way they calculated your holiday pay and also public holiday rates were calculated incorrectly).

how long were you employed for?

that company is simply going to use the info, calculate what’s owed and then proceed to pay you (but you have to prove you first).

What’s to say they did have an electronic way to gather your info….how do you know that’s secure ?
just because it’s collected electronically, doesn’t mean to say it’s intergrate into what they are using.

my bet is most people who collect electronically then manually input elsewhere the destroy the copy.

..

Your payroll records being retained is not the same as being “currently on the payroll”.

I received similar email from my ex employer in late 2022. I'd worked for them for a period of about 5 years. I also hadn't worked many holidays, therefore was not expecting much. I was surprised to have received almost $900 after tax.

Our details were requested via an online link. Initially thought it was scam but a phone call to them verified it was above board.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

I sent them an email with my current name, and bank account number.

I also said no details have changed since my employment.

I'll see how it goes.
