Are the external 2AA power things that come with CD players purely for powering the unit to play music (and NOT charging), or do they also charge the internal 2 NiMH cells?

And is it the same for Sony and Panasonic?

Back a long time ago before the advent of solid state storage, I had a panasonic that had the 2 AA attachment, it was just for powering it, the internal nicads would only charge if they had the missing piece on the side packaging, and it was plugged into the 4.5v or whatever adapter.

And charge soooo slowly too...
