tons: Any new news (or opinion)?

The ball is in HN's court as far as I can see.  If they are interested in providing good customer service they will provide a model number on the ASUS.  I don't think it's unreasonable to furnish this information, afterall they have already been paid in full in many cases.  If it is the "same spec" as they claim, there should be no problem with advising the model number.

I assume ASUS aren't going to ship these things to us in brown paper bags.  I assume it will have a proper fitting box with polystyrene inserts that hold the netbook, battery, power cord, manuals in place.  I assume the manual won't be hand-written by some ASUS staff member somewhere in Asia.

If it doesn't correspond to an existing model then I'm nervous about the after-sales support that will be available.  I don't want to be going to the ASUS download site to find drivers and bios updates, only to discover that they don't recognise this made-up model.

I think Asus would definitely ship it in retail packaging.  when i got mine i paid $500NZD in September for my 1005HA, so $288 would be about right for trade price :) easily

Fingers crossed, i hope you guys get the 6-cell, definitely worth it for long trips

Nice job Jobbins!

Still no model number though ...

When is someone going to track down an HN staff member and refuse to leave until they're told the details?

It's a pretty good secret. I doubt any shop staff know.

He's asked you to call back and confirm you want the ASUS without giving exact details on the specs.  Said it was an Atom processor, but not whether it's the 270 or 280.  Said it's black but not how big it is, which I would have thought is a much more important "spec".

Have you called back yet to confirm?

You definately have an unrealistic concept of margins in the PC industry!

When I was in the shop on Friday, the salesperson asked me if I wanted a refund, and I told him NO, as I couldn't make that decision because I'd nothing to base it on. I did get it confirmed from him (though not in writing) that I could get a refund when I went to pick it up and I wasn't happy with it. When the propeitor phoned me on Saturday, I mentioned about the refund option and how it was impossible to make a decision since we're not being told anyway in the way of specs.

Why don't you call and strongly request some more detail Mr Jobbins?

Or why don't we all call the guy?

It would be funny if he got like, 50 phone calls in a short space of time, with everyone asking the model number.

Whatever happened to that person a few days ago who had received a tweet from the HN twitterer saying they had been in discussions with an HN manager and was awaiting an email with details, and would pass it on?

Update: It was you c71931f.

You said they said "I saw the NZ Business MGR 3 nights ago and I am still awaiting an email to 100% confirm the model. Sorry. 16 minutes ago".

Have you received a follow up tweet?
