I'm being sent to Australia for work for a few months and I'll need to buy some basic homeware for the apartment I'm leasing (it's furnished but doesn't include utensils, glassware, linen etc) when I get there and since I know nothing about the country thought I would ask before I go; what are the names of the chain stores there similar to Briscoes/Farmers etc? And any other useful information :) I'll be living in the Melbourne CBD.

David Jones or Myer are both good options.

Target

BigW

Last time I was on holiday in Melbourne those were the main two. They are right in the heart of Melbourne.

Also, go to a place called Portland Hotel. It is actually a restuarant. Ask for the Beef Burger, and a James Squire Amber Ale.... magic combo!!!

It's on the Cnr of Russell and Little Collins Streets.

Enjoy!!

Cheers guys, looks like everything I need.

Isn't there supposed to be an IKEA building built in Auckland? I heard that from someone a while back.

From the CBD get the 24 or 109 tram out to richmond, There is a large ( I dont think there any small ones) IKEA on the corner of Victroria and Burnley

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/store/richmond/

Ikea can be a bit of a mission to get through cleanly, I find it handy to have a good look through their catalouge from the website and work out what I want before I go, otherwise you tend to end up with a pile of stuff that you think is funky but once you get it home really has no purpose :)
