I just went to nzherald.co.nz and on the main page with the latest news, I chose this news:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10624522

I looked at the time underneath the title and it says "12:20 PM Saturday Feb 6". The thing is my flatmate got the print edition of the nzherald newspaper at 8am today and that same story was in the newspaper before it appeared on their website.

So isn't nzherald.co.nz staffed 24/7 so they can update the latest news faster?

If they put all their news up first on their website, why would you get the newspaper and pay for the privilege of reading it? As they are providing the content for free IMHO you will find that they will have a delay in some of the stories hitting the web and also limit what stories are up there.

It could also be an updated time stamp for when they fixed spelling errors (which seem to appear all to often on Stuff and NZHerald) or added content.
