Just had a call from an Australian 1300 number....  it dropped me right into a phone system... "please press 1 if you have a laptop..." - I hung up before anything else.......... looking up the number leads me to some Australian based Indian mortgage/loans dealer - wtf.

Random...........

I get a number of calls inviting me to a super special limited offer on exciting holidaying in NZ and Australia ... for only $xxx ... Australian dollars, of course.

They always sound miffed when I simply respond no thanks ...

Wazza : Always get those, but this one just dropped me straight into an IVR as if I had called them.

Soon as we pickup and say hello, if we dont get a response instantly we pretty much know its a sales call and hang up...actually had hell of a lot of them in the past few weeks...

I had one about 2 weeks ago call my mobile..... came up as an intl number. Answered it... "is this the director of KiwiBlast Ltd ?"
"Yes"
"Calling from blah blah, in London etc etc, great offer"
"Not interested sorry"
"but its blah blah"
"Im winding the company down"
"But its not for the company, its for you personally"
I hung up at that point.... thought if its for me "personally" then theyd at least would have looked up my  company name in the companies database and know my first name.

Hmm, isn't this one of those situations where you go, "Hang on, I'll get Dad, Mum, The Boss - I think they are outside" (choose your fav), and then just leave the phone sitting on the table while you go about your normal tasks, and check every 5 mins or so to see if they are still on the line. After all, it's their money they are spending on the ph call, not yours :-)

My thoughts are no longer my own and is probably representative of our media-controlled government

Last time I had one of those calls I did my own social experiment, I went right through the whole process (fake name and address of course) Right up to the point where they asked for my credit card details. When I asked why they wanted my credit card number the person assured me that would not charge anything to it.

So I said my credit card only has a $100 limit (the offer was for $400AU), the person got really annoyed at me and went silent. So I hung up.

They then called back and said "I think we got disconnected" to which i replied, "No, I hung up on you, just like I am going to do now" *click*

Never heard back from them.  Managed to waste nearly 1 hour of their time :)

Interesting though, they have a whole story lined up, the guy I was talking to asked about my fav location in NZ, when I said it he said he had a wife from there.  They really know how to make you comfortable before taking money from you!
