"Power line communications (PLC) works by transmitting data signals through the same power cables that transmit electricity, but using a different frequency..."

Does anybody know whats happening in this area... the only articles I can find like the following link are from back in 2002 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/column/...

comments such as this sounded very promising... "That makes PLC a very viable alternative to the Telecom wire that holds the monopoly on communications to our homes - also known as the "local loop" or "last mile"..."

I guess the technology has it's fair share of complications but perhaps in the last few years it may have come closer to being launched as a commercial service?

I'd love to know more about this if anyone here has some info, reply or email me.

cheers, Jon :o)

As far as I know, this is taking a long time to launch anywhere in the world. There's a company in...I forget if it's Illinois or Ohio...in the US that's doing it, but that's all I've heard of it.

There's a big push from HAM radio operators to not let it happen because it causes interference to them. Wussies.

But you are right - it is one more form of competition that the government should be looking at if they're so darned concerned about broadband uptake and increasing their rank in the OECD.
