It seems that that website talking about Luner Activity vs Earthquakes has some truth to it, they predicted a bigish earthquake between the 2nd of this month and the 8th.

Or alternatively, it's a coincidence.

I predict at least one more magnitude 4.0 earthquake in the next 96 hours based on the fact my cat changed it's usual toilet spot...

Let's see if cat toileting habits are a predictor of earthquakes :-)

Cheers - N

It would be interesting to compare their predictions to how many they get wrong. Considering up until Saturday we were getting an aftershock on average every 29 minutes it wasn't too hard to predict we'd get another "biggish" aftershock (they're also nice and vague about the size).

Ahhh, Ken Ring. Also wrote a book on palmistry for cats and thinks a light year is how long it takes the light of the sun to reach us.

A little background on the guy:  http://www.sillybeliefs.com/ring.html

  • forecasts made by Mr Ring, effectively taken at random, do not tally with the actual weather that occurred

  • he has been less than honest when attempting to defend his past forecasts

  • he grossly misrepresents the potential accuracy of his forecasts

  • he incorporates discredited astrological beliefs into his forecast theory, which is nothing more than pseudoscience

  • while claiming to welcome debate, Mr Ring instead welcomes only support

  • in a manner identical to psychics, he relies on people forgetting his many failures, but remembering his rare hits

  • Mr Ring's work is littered with innumerable errors, especially involving science, which demonstrates poor understanding and incompetent research, all of which completely destroys Mr Ring's credibility

  • His promotion of psychics, astrology, numerology, palmistry, graphology, phrenology etc, and his palm reading book for cats demonstrates that he has great difficulty separating fact from fantasy

Nothing but pseudoscience.

If you make enough predictions you're bound to get the odd one right. Y'know the old saying, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

I'm following his predictweather site and am documenting his "a week from now" forecasts and comparing them to the actual weather.

So far, not so good. According to him, we were supposed to get snow last week on a day that turned out to be really lovely... now he says “Snow can equally be frost, ice, cold rain, hail, or snow flurries” - which Christchurch had NONE of.
