"A room has an infinite number of points to cross, and mathematics dictates you cannot cross an infinite number of points in a finite amount of time, therefore it is impossible to cross a room."

But you can create a chart with a limited number of points showing the trend of an unlimited number of points. Just imagine crossing the room is actually plotting a chart with your steps...

The curve itself would have an infinite number of points though... surely...

Depends, are the infinite number of points constrained to a finite location within the room? go around them.

not really a question - more a concept.

As a concept the maths is scewed.

An infinite number of points can be specified within a fixed distance, yet that same fixed distance can be covered in a finite amount of time at any given speed.

ie:

1 metre.
100cm
1000mm

The number of points can increase to infinity, yet the actual distance defined remains the same.
n^x points = y distance.

y remains constant, so if it takes 1 second to cover the disance specified by y, an infinite number of points within y can be covered in a finite amount of time.

Ha ha ha you guy's crack me up!!

There is a saying! "if it dont fit don't force it, Just relax and let it go!!!" funny!
always thought I would be using that term in some other situation. ;-)
but this seems just as appropriate.

LOL. I'm the kind of person who will think a problem to death. Even if the answer comes to me at 3am in the morning. ;p

But that one certainly did cause a bit of argument in the office. I still think I'm right and half the office thinks I'm wrong in my view.

Apparently it's part of Zeno's paradox.

Either way I'm satisifed in my mind it's possible to cross an infinite number of potential points within a finite distance. :-)

Jp.

PS: Apparently yes, I am strange.
