dannyres: I've reported that site as a phishing scam to Microsoft, who have a phishing filter built into IE.  If you get a chance I suggest you do the same.. (Tools - SmartScreen Filter - Report unsafe website).

That site now comes with a big red page on Internet Explorer saying it's unsafe and a phishing alert. Well done!

Firefox does too.

I don't think anyone advocated that. Most of the comments were that those would be phased out when NGN comes in full force. Different times then.

There's some awesome generosity coming from big business in Chch, The Warehouse has given their employees a $200 store credit to cover anything they need and I'm told by a Vodafone employee that Vodafone are giving all Chch employees a lump sum. People have also been using, and been grateful to have available, the Vodafone Optimus Prime store which has been parked up at The Hub Hornby and is moving to Home Base Shirley tonight. I'm sure there are many more companies that are helping their staff directly which is awesome.

Hopefully the smaller businesses can get some support to help cover wages for their staff though, I know of many people who are unsure if they will have a job anymore, let alone if they'll get paid.

That banks are not playing quite so nice.

My sister in law asked for an immediate mortage holiday and was declined because she still has some money in her account.

She's a single mother and was working on the 15th floor in the CBD --> unemployed.

old3eyes: As Telecom is collecting old analog landline fones for CH I wonder if all those on GZ who over the past year or two advocating naked DSL , VOIP fone and using their $1000 mobile in an emergency saying that the old PSTN is passed it used by date still feel the same way?? No power no smarts..

So what about people using computers instead of plain ol pen and paper?  No power no smarts.

Pak n Save Moorhouse opened Saturday, limited hours from 12 - 6pm. Pak n Save Hornby is open normal hours, Northlands and Riccarton are restricted hours and Wainoni is borked. Most New Worlds are open excluding South City (mall damaged/inside four aves), Redcliffs (damaged) and St Martins (car park damaged). Most Countdowns open excluding Colombo St (damaged in fire), Eastgate and The Palms. Moorhouse Countdown is open but with limited range (frozen/chilled/deli/butchery not available). The supply chain supporting these stores is amazing, Chch will never run out of food. The Hub Hornby is the only mall open, with most stores excluding Telecom (word is not allowed to open by HQ), Kiwibank and fast foods outlets open (foodcourt open).

It's truely inspiring that some of these stores are open at all. I know of staff at these stores who have lost their homes and property yet make that extra effort to be there for the people of Chch.

It's sad to hear though of some profiteering happening around Chch, particularly with dairies and staple supplies, there was one example on the radio this morning of a dairy charging $15 for a 2 litre milk.

Look out for the Vodafone mobile store at Home Base Shirley today (Sunday).

Is that correct? News the other day said it was Moorhouse that was on fire, and a mate of mine who lives a block away from the Colombo one is unaware of it. He left town on Friday so can't check now...

With the qld floods and the .au NBN project, there's going to be a skills shortage across the board.

I was reading on TM (I think) that builders are only being offered $45/h though FC so they're heading to .au for $60/h.

While I don't think they should rebuild the city 'at any cost', I do think it's going to have to be competitive and with what's happening in .au there's going to be real demand for ppl.

At the same time I accept there's a bunch of lawyers that used to work in the city that might have to retrain as there aren't going to be property deals for a while this time are there?
