I think there is just a little perspective missing

Sucks you got the thin edge of the wedge, but really, there are bigger issues in life than drawing out the debate on this. Life is never perfect and neither is this situation but if you start losing sleep over it, whats going to happen when real stuff happens?

You've lost nothing, gained nothing and are right back where you were before you made the purchase sans a few posts and getting ratty (your words). Thats a whole lot of wasted energy talking about how you should deal with someone else and their business practices when you could just wash your hands and move on. Are you likely to pursue it? If so then probably less time talking and more time making hay while the sun shines. Otherwise... meh. It happens over the world. Take the hit and roll with it and not stress about it.

Just saying

A site lists an incorrect price, the transaction gets cancelled. The OP suspected it was too good to be true and tried to cash in by purchasing 3 of these items.

It would seem the retailer 'fixed' the price pretty quickly - so it seems it was an accident that the item was listed at the 'bargain' price.

I agree with the OP that saying - sorry - we accidentally listed the wrong price might have been more honest - but are you 100% sure that the item stock count is correct anyway? I have tried purchasing from some online stores that show a stock count and they have said said sorry we dont have that item in stock anymore - so I know that those figures arent always 100% accurate.

i got an order like that too, check the terms and conditions on their site. usually it says, we can change "incorrect prices" before shipping goods, or something to that effect. my advice is, dont shop there again.

Satch:
tdgeek: So, if they set the wrong price (the higher one) and you bought the goods, and then they corrected the price to the correct lower one, I take it you would accept that and that you have in fact paid too much.

So we continue to talk about pricing mistakes and not (conflicting) stock issues as is the situation in my case...

If I purchased a product from a retailer at a certain price and the price of that item reduced after my purchase, as long as they didn't have some sort of price promise guarantee then I'd have to accept that.  They wouldn't have made me buy the item at the price I did, I would have chosen to do so myself.

Personally I research prices of products prior to making a purchase (over a certain value where it is beneficial to do so).  And I purchased a product not too long ago that reduced in price days later by $100's of dollars.  The company involved didn't have a price promise, so I just had to grin and bear it.

Well I've been drawn into a pricing mistake/reduction argument which is really pointless in terms of my situation, so I'll finish up here...

I think they are covered by the contractural mistakes act anyway, which covers obvious one off mistakes.

What mistake did they make again?

Seriously, just ignore those who dont understand your situation. Are you going to bring this case to the tribunal or not? Keen to know the result.

Good piece of advice.

I'm currently having discussions via email with the director of the company now.  Hopefully I can sort out something that is satisfactory to both parties.  Will post the outcome.

I would think an apology and confirming that they have/will dealt with the staff member telling you what appears to be lies should be satisfactory to both parties...

Just to close this off for anyone who was interested...

I asked the company in question to come to a compromise (namely to sell me one of the SDD's at their original discounted price) to avoid the hassle of the disputes tribunal.  The director of the company ignored my compromised completely.

Since then, I've had a couple of serious personal issues arise, one of them being my mother was rushed to hospital because her health is very poor.  So I've been in Wellington to be with her and support my father ever since (I live in Auckland).

So I have decided to focus my efforts on my personal issues which are far more important, and will not be pursuing any futher action with the company involved.

I've told the company in question that I will not pursue the matter any further, and suggested they review their order acceptance and payment collection processes to ensure no more customers experience what I did.

The company in question, incidentally, is Acquire.  I'd suggest you be very careful if dealing with this company, particularly when purchasing discounted/excess stock from them.

Thanks to all the people who understood my predicament and provided constructive feedback.

Cheers.
