TreatMe launched tonight, and it's really slow and unresponsive.  Seems like the TradeMe team underestimated how many of us want $1 BurgerFuel vouchers...

The sites all make money by clipping the ticket on the deal. Whether the actual retailers benefit from these deals is another question entirely, something discussed by Nate on his blog last week.

Thanks, interesting read.

I guess they see it as advertising.

If someone wants to buy the auckland coffee deal for me, I will swap it for the 2 wellington bagels I got yesterday.

And GrabOne is not to be left behind, wit "sharp" language in its press release today:

Movie Tickets Grab a National Record
Yesterday’s GrabOne offer of $9 movie tickets has grabbed the title of best selling single deal since the daily deal phenomenon began.

21,465 movie tickets sold across Auckland during the 24 hour time period which offered 45% off a standard adult movie admission.

The deal was the second time Grabbies had seen a movie ticket offer; GrabOne launched on 7th July 2010 with $4 cinema tickets and the deal remains one of GrabOne’s fastest selling offers with two tickets sold every second.

“It’s easy to sell enormous quantities of a $1 deal.  The risk is low and the price is right,” says GrabOne Founder Shane Bradley. “Yesterday’s $9 price point for a movie ticket was still incredibly sharp but just goes to show it’s not just about the price, it’s about what’s on offer too.”

GrabOne has sold more than 750,000 vouchers throughout New Zealand since it launched in July last year.

GrabOne Facts & Figures
• GrabOne was launched on 7 July 2010.
• GrabOne is the only site of its kind to have deals in 13 cities across New Zealand and has launched in five locations across Australia.
• At the time of sending this press release, New Zealanders had bought 776,491 GrabOne coupons to 2200 different businesses, saving them $23,853,637
• GrabOne has 96,153 Facebook friends!
• GrabOne launched GrabOne Bottle on 6 December and GrabOne Tee a week later!  GrabOne Tee’s $1 t-shirt deal on March 10th sold out in just 2 hours.
• GrabOne customers are referred to as ‘Grabbies’.
• GrabOne founder Shane Bradley is the man behind Finda and Sella

Plus they are running on proper servers - not someone's desktop in the TradeMe office.

$! for a filled bagel is cheap. I got two but then a friend said she tried to redeem on 23 March and they refused (Willis Street).  I think they said it was too early but the coupon clearly said 23 March was the start date.
