All browsers bar ie have spell check as far as I'm aware. And if your using ie you've probably got bigger issues than your spelling

Surely we should fix the problem by teaching our kids and, apparently, our adults how to spell....?  Not demand a spellchecker, or a specific browser client!

Firefox does have spell check. Incorrect words are underlined in red. Right click the word and it will show you a list of correct spellings. Try it.

Or is it not working for some reason?

In any case, maybe an autocorrect feature would be more useful than spellcheck - but for some reason there are no autocorrect extensions available for firefox or chrome. Chrome announced an autocorrect feature a while back but it has never been in the main build at least.

It should be "And if you're using ie"

"You're" verb, "your" possessive. The use is clearly a verb.

snip..

It's a Firefox extension the the user needs to add, it's not installed by default.
I use the British English Dictionary extension myself.
Either use the Add-ons Manager in Fx to search for one or take a look at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary/?src=api
I'm sure there will be an American one too if that's preferred.
