I agree, I was going to say the same thing, seems like someone stirring. Would be cause for instant dismissal if it's true though.

Stay classy NZ!

New Zealand officials apologised to Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard after a driver refused to let her on to a bus with other leaders during the Pacific Island's forum in Auckland last week and told her to get on the spouses bus.

Just too funny for words.

OMG Steve Williams has finally gone over the top. What a muppet. To the rest of the world, please understand he stands alone and isn't representative of NZ'rs in general.

Steve Williams is a fool, jeezes Tiger help Steve become a millionaire and Steve is bitter that he got the sack! If I made 10million and then he fired me I would still kiss my ex boss feet every time I saw him. I would wash that dudes feet!

This Steve Williams stuff is really sad.

Tiger Woods came to New Zealand and played for basically half his usual fee on the back of him being friends with Steve Williams. While he was here he even went speedway racing with Steve.

And now this?

I get Williams was unhappy about reporters being outside his house when the scandal broke, I get he is mad at being sacked and even the way it happened but this ... this is completely insane!

Who would ever hire him to do the one thing he is actually any good at ever again?

Apparently Adam Scott who is standing by his man. I guess an improvement in golf skill is more important than taking a stand! I lost a lot of respect for him over that.

Sounds a bit overblown to me, typical mainstream media going mad over PC nonsense.

Must have been a slow news day.

ragnor: Hardly. Calling someone a black *ssh*le is hardly acceptable language. Regardless of how badly it reflects on Steve Williams as a person, it's a racist insult at the best of angles.

If he was a racist surely he wouldn't have worked for Tiger for 10 years.

To me racist is not working for someone soley because he's black, OR not hiring someone solely because he's black etc.

I do not agree calling someone a black a**hole because you think he's and a**hole and he happens to be black is a big deal.. poor taste and rude sure... but it's still seems like overblown PC/media nonsense to claim it's racist to me.

It would be interesting to see a video of the speech but it was a private event so I doubt we will see the context of the remark, award/comedy roasting usually gets pretty riske...

He may not be racist, but the comment was racist. He could have just called him an ahole (Which would have been bad enough).

It's worth noting this isn't his first very controversial commentary, and his outlandish comments at other golfers was one of the main factors behind TW sacking him.

Just so we get this right: you are not a racist if you are a Maori member of Parliament and you refer to others as "White Mother Fu#kers". Nor are you racist if you are a well paid Auckland Academic when you state immigrants should be banned if they are white. But if you are a bag carrier who makes comments, at a roast, against a person who admitted to having 120 affairs including the daughetr of a neighbor those comments are defined as racist.

minimoke: Hone IS racist, and that COMMENT by the Academic was racist. I can't comment as to the Academic being racist as such.

Anyone who thinks Hone isn't racist doesn't understand the word.

Pity some of it didn't rub off on Steve during his employment. I guess the learning only went one way.

I think we should defer to the acadmeics on this issue. Esteemed scholar, Margaret Mutu defines  racism as" “Racism is definitely associated with power and using power to deprive another group,”.

Maori and PC liberals don't see Hones comments as racist despite him being in a position of power (an MP) and his attempt to deprive white people of something.

Maori, PC liberals and Auckland University don't see Margaret Mutus comments as racist even though she is an academic influencing the minds of our young and attempting to deprive white people the opportunity to come to NZ.

PC Liberals on the other hand see Steve's comments as racist even though he is a mere bag boy and the only one he was taking a shot at was tiger.

Can't figure it myself!

I would say Steve Williams is less likely to be a racist than Hone or Mutu.

That isn't to say Williams isn't racist but we can't say it based on this one comment. I say this mostly because I don't think there was the depth of thought in the comment to say it was racist. If Tiger was short/tall/crossed-eyed/catholic/fat/etc then it would have been the same comment but with one of those words instead of 'black' in the same sentence.

This does not a racist make. A rude idiot who should have had the grace to hold his tongue, if not for common decency then for the memory of someone who was his friend? Yes. A racist? No.

Hone and Margaret are a totally different kettle of insanity. These guys have on several occasions made it plain that they make judgments about other people they don't know based on the colour of skin. They have made it part of who they are to say these things, this means they have actually thought about it.

They have intentionally made it clear that they see a link between traits like honesty, integrity and so on, or the lack there of, based on skin colour. That is racist.

This is also completely different to being a rude person who said something stupid.
