People assume that when I say thanks / thank you that I actually mean it.
some times I do sometime people just can't pick up on sarcasm.... :)

Even on busy Fidonet echoes, messageboards, newsgroups, mailing lists etc, i have never been told off for saying thankyou,

I normally do say things like

"Hey thanks - that really helped me out"

It will make people smile, and could be the difference between them helping again, or not.

I use a few newsgroups on usenet. I say thanks, otherwise a TIA or "thanks in advance" is nice.

I think that sometimes a TIA can sound a little expectant.

I always prefer to say thankyou afterwards. And I mean it too, great guys.
