No, plenty of people would stop and listen- - unfortunately they are also the same people that seem to think that camping in the middle of cities and whinging about life being unfair will result in someone imposing a maximum wage to make things all sweet...

I think the Occupy settlements are moving beyond any statement they may have made into an excuse to camp out and whine to like minded people.

I've not heard anything from them or the people in them that stood up to 10 seconds of rational consideration.

Yeah well... nobody is perfect :P Maybe I was a little rude especially for a first post but what can I say? Just like so many strongly oppose this, I support it and I know they get a lot of stick. Were you in the UK while the worst of the depression was happening? Did the bail out money for the banks come out of your tax paying cash? Did for me. Greece is an amazing country, shame it's been so messed up by the Euro. Only 48% of brits think the Euro has a future, but then we did vote against it so.... biased opinion maybe.. (just like mine)!

The sooner the protesters all run back home to mummy and daddy's "corporate greed fueled" existence the better. Their pitiful protest (at least) in AK is just plain old embarassing

I don't think the point is that anyone is opposing it, more opposing the current action. Or misunderstand it.
Because everyone would be on board with improving things. But not many people see the reason to camp around complaining about things being bad.

Lucky you!! I'm in the process... the UK does kind of suck not just in financial terms, it's flipping freezing there. I find NZ far more agreeable. Anyway that's well off topic so I'm off.

Wow, I really had no idea how ignorant I was, but thanks for articulating it. I visited Occupy twice, first because I thought I agreed with the effort in principle, but the spokespeople proposed an eclectic raft of concepts that did not provide (at least not for my little mind) a quantifiable outcome. I returned a second time as I was curious what, given the passage of time, had evolved from the movement, but this time I was ranted at and felt unsafe and departed. It was after these attempts I concluded that this movement did not have the will of the people at heart and I sought sollace in the website, but found none.

The previous outburst certainly helped solidify my viewpoint.

@lyonrouge It's a shame they ranted at you as you put it. Freedom of speech is one of the principals though. Perhaps they didn't like what you had to say, I wouldn't know. Do you honestly think though, Lyon, that 1% of the population deserve an unfair cut of profits just because of who they work for, not because of the quality of work that they do? For instance in the UK, a bonus of 50 million GPB was given to bank managers in December 2011 alone. Everybody is entitled to an opinion and I really didn't set out to change yours, I simply don't get it.

Oh - and Wade, the majority don't run back to their Mums and Dads. A lot of them have been their consistantly since October, some have homes and others don't. You only need to read a sign at the site to notice this or speak to somebody there. Okay, maybe a couple of people live with their parents the rest of the time, but that goes for any group in their early twenties, some live with their folks because they've recently left education, are continuing with university or working and simply don't have the money to put down for a flat. University is expensive and such generalisations seem discrimatory. It's a really nice camp actually, I've only been treated with kindness and respect there.

To be honest, reading over the General Assembly notes I get the following impressions:
-It sounds like a bunch of kids in a treehouse
-It sounds like a bunch of kids in a treehouse with political schisims
-It sounds like a bunch of kids in a treehouse pretending to be an organisation like the UN

Uh... it is an orginisation but not very much like the UN. For a start you don't have to be a highly paid diplomat, celebrity etc. to join. Kids in a treehouse? What does that even mean!?

University isn't that expensive considering the amount of help provided by the government. Plus it is possible to >get a job< and save money?

It means what it says - the read I get is "Look at us, we have a special club, lets pass some resolutions and hope someone pays attention!"

I hadn't said anything on my second visit, I suspect I had been judged on my appearance (suit and tie).

I was genuinely interested in what Occupy was about, I di not believe the current system is equitable, but i had not alternative myself, Occupy seems to have the sane discomfort, but also, no solution.

A transactional speculative taxation system seems fair, but i was seeking implementation details, that Occupy did not deliver.
