@KiwiNZ unless that view point is based on solid fact and actual experience (and I know for sure it isn't the former) then you're just stereotyping and I don't appreciate the prejudice.

NZFINEST: today walking past the campers on queen st opp the town hall i noticed they have a little display area under a tent type thing with a few chairs. the only people i could see sitting in this area was some of queen st most notorious homless, one of which was sniffing glue. couldn't see anyone there that looked like they where part of this so called movement.

i also work opp vic part where the rest of these dreamers have moved to. i can tell you that the caltex gas station where they all go to use the bathroom are sick of them walking and using there facilities without buying anything.

honestly it just seems that they are all hanging out together keeping each other company not having to pay rent.............but hey I could be wrong

Aotea square was a better strategic situation in my opinion so I kind of get some of what you're saying - but you say you couldn't see any one there that "looked" like they were part of the movement? What does that even mean? Are members of Occupy supposed to walk around with it written on their foreheads or something? To look at me you might not think I am or have been involved, what's with all this judgment exactly? Why wouldn't the homeless have merged their political views with what's going on?? You know, if anybody in this situation is misinformed I don't think it's them, I think it's those passing judgment and stereotyping based on what they've heard, seen or what they simply assume without investigating... it's kind of sad.

No mainstream media coverage coupled with familiarity means the general public don't even notice the protesters now, even the wife (who works in the town hall) has gone quiet on the subject. The longer these partially manned camps last the more stupid the movement presents to the majority making it so so pointless.

I almost pity these poor sods :P

what is sad is that people can't use these public places because you have a bunch of dreamers thinking that they are cool and that people support them taking up our parks.............well there are a few that do i guess . love to know ifany of them are paying rates. but i have not meet 1 person in my building which has over 400 people in it supporting them

i think it is time to move on

One just has to walk past the "camp" to see that the Wellington group is the City's homeless, addicts and 'street people'

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6256381/Occupy-Wellington-protesters-may-be-ousted

I did not come down in the last shower and have worked etc in the city for a very long time.

Uh... you guys - paying rates would be kind of dumb because the money would be going where exactly? Nobody else pays to use the park or public toilet, why should they? What next, charging people to sit for 20 minutes on a bench?
You say that less than 400 people in a building.... these are working people who most likely are content with their jobs. So firstly that's just one demographic and secondly 400 per building sounds like rather a lot.... can you put it in to perspective, like what is it as a percentage?

do you know who pays rates here in nz. and what rates are used for ?? and yes there are some public toilets now up north that you have to pay to use......... so yea

as for the secound part of your question, if you are asking as a percentage of who thinks they are doing a good thing and back them, it is 0%

I wasn't really asking you, that was more to KiwiNZ from memory... 0% is rubbish though so that wasn't particularly helpful...
Public toilets don't cost in the centre of Auckland as I recall so whaaat are you on about....? Oh rates - that like council tax then I take it? Why exactly would these people pay extra for being out of their homes for a while? Also the homeless - do they normally pay rates?

Rates are a Local Body ( Council) tax, it is paid by the registered property owner. Renters will pay as landlords will include it in the rental.

Homeless do not pay rates.

Byrned: A statement such as the above only prooves that you read some articles that came out at the time that the information was released. "I was away reading special relativity again..." - sounds like a Tui ad.

However it's far more likely to be a mathematical error due to neutrino's being given an assumed mass, as the mass scale of neutrino's is still not known and can only be estimated.

So, in conclusion, the experiment at CERN is more likely to result in a better understanding of the mass of neutrino's than to actually have found something that travels faster than light.

It doesn't prove that at all. That's what I was doing, straight up. I read over the school comment a second time and thought I'd set the record straight. Yeah... I was thinking about that and you're probably right (if you do assume that it has quantifiable mass). If it turns out it has no mass then why should it's speed be restricted to c? And what do you mean they haven't found something that travels faster than light? If you take anything from point a to point b, using a restricted speed limit and it arrives sooner than predicted then it is going faster or taking a different, quicker path.... that's pretty obvious. Yeah it was only a few milliseconds over the given distance but put that into light years and it's really substantial. Perhaps it was down to a marginal error in estimating the mass. And yes, these experiments are reaping huge and amazing results.

@lyonrouge That does sound like a viable, realistic plan to me, why not run that by some of the current campers? Perhaps they would want to stay there not until a plan of action has been formalized but until it has achieved results... ie. in a year or how ever long it takes, otherwise I think they are open to suggestion on how to improve the financial situation.

I've submitted this to the website so that both Auckland and Wellington can review and contribute.

I pay rates, and in part, fund the parks and public toilets. This was a very odd question, maybe I have it out of context? I read the prior posts and this question was one of your more unusual postings.

I'm sorry but Kissy, you're really coming across to me as someone who is quite happy to pass judgement on the current state of affairs of New Zealand with very little real idea of a) our history b) how things work c) what people have fought hard to earn the right to do. Their are probably d & e's as well but I haven't read much of what you've had to say - just thought I'd comment on the little that I've seen so far... almost like your comments on the state of affairs.

@lyonrouge I just meant that you don't pay directly to use the facilities (eg. parks, toilets etc.) whereas in other countries people pay rates (or whatever they call them) for public services to be there and pay every time they need to use the public toilet. If the majority of the Occupy movement are still paying their rates from home then I don't see what the problem is.
