can anyone recommend a cheap and good cpanel webhost for less than USD$5 a month, and and not $5 if you join for a year or anything?

currently im paying usd$7 a month for arvixe.com, but my website doesnt get much attention and just sits there online these days, still want to keep it up incase i do do something, but its just costing me money atm, so want to reduce how much its costing me.

wanting cpanel so i can just do a backup of my current site and restore it on the new host.

a nz company/host would be nice (esp if in nz dollars), but not required.

http://www.hostgator.com

I use them for my professional website, and a website I run that gets 2M hits a month. Good performance, and very good tech support on a rare occasion I need it.

Use the coupon gz00000000000 for a 25% discount off your first payment. It's US$7/month with no commitment, less the discount, or US$3.96/month if you commit to three years.

I have heard that one problem with hosting in the US is that some search engines don't pick up your website as being from NZ, which can affect it's rankings. Some search engines you can configure to geo set it to NZ, like google in the webmaster tools, but not everyone knows to do this.

Either a .co.nz domain name or hosting the site in NZ triggers google to think it's a New Zealand site.

I use them for a few sites, fairly reliable, got responses to support tickets at 4am in the morning, so they're pretty good in my eyes.

Look and compare with others for things like diskspace and traffic, and the amount of backups they do.

yeah $2.50 a month seems good, im not updating my site regularly (dont have the time presently) and its just sitting there, im not going over the monthly traffic limit that plan offers (had to remove some old files to drop below 250MBs (their hdd limit), but they were mostly backup files i was hosting).

being hosted in auckland is a bonus, "give your business to an aucklander" (like the ads on the radio), well im not concerned about auckland, but rather give my very little business to a kiwi company.

transferred my site to hosting-nz.co.nz on their $2.5 a month plan, so far so good. site seems to be working well, no real dramas in moving site across (thought there might be), but their tech support were helpful, did most of it for me, including transfer files and updating my wordpress config file to point to the database they are hosting etc.

so yeah impressed with customer service so far, seems just as fast as old host. $2.50 a month score.
