JayADee: I still think my line attenuation is a bit high (13 when Chorus said it was 5 to 6 on the test to see if I could get VDSL)

I'm pretty sure prequal attenuation is measured at 300kHz which is pretty low frequency for DSL. Attenuation increases with frequency so I'd expect prequal attenuation to be equal to or lower than ADSL attenuation and a lot lower than VDSL attenuation as reported by the Fritz. In my case my ADSL attenuation was 2db and my VDSL attenuation was 4-5db (on an 8b profile). I don't think 6db -> 13db is obviously a problem.

Thanks for the input!

HiTM4N:
Dairusire: Well, I just swapped out the Fritz!box 7390 for a newer modem from NetComm

Officially name the NF4V, it can do ADSL/VDSL/Fibre, dedicated Gigabit Wan port, 4x gigabit ethernet ports, Dualband wireless 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and USB 3.0 ports and VoIP.

So with this swap I noted down I was getting between 46-47 maybe even 48mb/s sync on my line. As soon as I dropped this Netcomm in the sync speed rose upto 51.4mb/s and 51.6mb/s down.

Does it support pass-thru?

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MODNCM1054&name=Netcomm-NF4V-VDSL--ADSL-WiFi-Gigabit-Modem-Router-

Has specs and price. Looks nice, price is good too!

Ascent sells them for $226. Pricespy has some shops selling them for under that. Pays to check if shipping is included.

Just had a quick question, what is a rough time frame for profile changes with vdsl with in the 10 day period?

in the 10 day period, it tries to make changes every day.

when they will actually happen is anyones guess though. take my line for example, im in my 10 day period now, got back to DLM-1 pretty easily in the first 2 days, but lost 10mbit.

DLM isnt being very nice in giving it back.. was kinda hopeful it would flop over to 17a since im boarderline for it..

in the upside, DLM cleared my remaining FECs completely out of nowhere...

It used to be that new connections would usually start on DLM-6 and have a change every 2nd day (sometimes there were 3 days gaps). My perception is that it's more common to be put on DLM-1 these days and the changes don't seem to be so regular.

Hey all,

Looking to grab myself a VDSL modem! I have $400 worth of Harvey Norman vouchers I need to spend do you know if their stores stock VDSL modems as nothing is showing up on there site. If yes do you have any recommendations?

Thanks guys/gals :)

I don't think so, and if they do I suspect their prices won't be great. Why not pick a good ISP then sign up for a contract to get the free modem? I haven't regretted that at all. Then use the vouchers for something like a tablet or similar on one of HN sales ;-)

your going to be extremely limited in terms of options for vdsl modems. most stores dont stock them.

harvey normans, good luck. without even looking at them, i can tell you, they wont stock them. vdsl just isnt residential enough for them to stock them yet, nevermind most online stores...

this does seem to be the case now. the DLM-1 profile it starts on, also seems to be a very conservative one.

We got put onto the DLM on tuesday but nothing has seemed to change so far.  From the fritz log the connection dropped out yesterday morning but nothing has changed.

20 attenuation :/ thats gonna be a little borderline.

whats your spectrum like?

error wise, you look good, probably next few days, you should hit DLM-1

i suspect your resync will have been a move from DLM-4 to DLM-2, take note of the footnote "*9 Note that on the Fritz, this may show as INP: 0 rather than 1. This appears to be a bug in the firmware"

Attenuation was actually at 12 before the splitter got put on the main phone line in.

14, on vdsl? or when you were still on adsl? if vdsl, you have a fault to deal with.

your line doesn't look too pretty, clearly looks like loss over distance as expected - however ild expect a little spike after the adsl range due to lack of cross talk before tailing off.
