Well, I'm still stable at FECPM=12 and CRCPM=0.02; no change yet. Tomorrow is the 7 day mark so I'm guessing if anything will happen it should either tomorrow or Sunday morning?

I'm sitting at around 29 FEC & 0.07 CRC, but I have 2 days left until I hit a week.

@SamF: Well damn:

What do you reckon?

1) Give it an extra 7 days and see if anything changes.
2) Force a resync
3) Take this as proof that modifying SNRM up or down causes DLM to get "stuck"
4) ???

Option 1  - even it that's no fun!

What was the actual date / time of your last resync?

This is right at the top of my internet connection event log:

01.09.12 09:33:40 Internet connection established successfully. IP address: 111.xxx.xxx.xxx, DNS server: 202.37.101.1 and 202.37.101.2, Gateway: 111.69.17.16, Broadband PoP: SNAPDSL-AKL

Yeah, I think I probably will go for option 1.

Ok, so that's definitely due for a resync.

There is nothing wrong with trying a manual resync, the DLM system can distinguish between a manual resync and a 'loss' of sync per-say, so it's not going to affect your 'stability' rating with DLM.

If I were you I would try a manual resync. That's what I'm planning to do tomorrow if I don't get automatically resynced. I have tried this before and got a favorable result.

Aha, OK I wasn't sure if DLM could distinguish between a user initiated resync and something else so it's cool if it can! I'm guessing the best way to do that is through the "Reconnect" button on the "Internet->Online Monitor" tab? If it's going to change profile does it happen immediately?

Why don't you both agree to  take different actions and how they pan out?
One does a Manual re-sync and the other does nothing.
In the interest of science?

The reconnect button only does a PPP reconnect. In order to resync you have to either reboot your router, or unplug the line for ~15 seconds.

@Allan: Yeah, I know what you're saying, but we have lots of examples of resyncs which were supposed to happen and didn't for WEEKS! :)

So now I'm curious how the DLM process determines that unplugging the line is different to a resync caused by line conditions :)

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I'm guessing that DLM can see when a line just gets worse and worse until it disconnects, vs just suddenly loosing connection instantly.

So, what are you going to do?

As an impatient sort of person, I decided to try the resync... no change though :-/ (or if it's going to make a change will it only take effect tomorrow morning between 4-6am?)

Actually perhaps this is also a possibility. The more problems I detect with the line the longer and longer I will take to move the line back to a higher performance profile (you don't know for sure what DLM thinks represents a fault, so turning the cpe off may well just be interpreted as a disconnection (simplest interpretation), its possible but highly unlikely that the cpe tells the dslam on re-sync that the disconnect was a result of a power reset). DLM knows when it initiates a change, but anything else maybe treated as a fault, or representative of the poor line. Most network things tend to reduce the performance to a lower threshold quite quickly and then take an exponential amount of time to restore it back to the original (tcp, wred, becn etc etc).So perhaps the constent fiddling doesnt help, just one theory.

Also since vdsl has sla associated with it, DLM may err on the side of caution.

Naa, manual resync should make any change due come into effect immediately. Bummer dude!

The other option (if you don't get any change next week either), is to get DLM reset on your line so you start your 10 day rapid training period again.

Another thing that occurs to me is maybe it takes into account that you're running with 16ms interleaving and there even with your pretty low error rate, if you go down to 8ms or less DLM may be estimating that your error rate may be too high so that's why it's not putting you down to a lower latency profile? It does seem a bit odd tho, most people don't stay on 16ms for long! Maybe it's time to talk to snap and see if they can do anything for you?
