No. But for VDSL2 a master filter is essential if you want POTS as well.

With ADSL2+ a master filter is highly recommended (and you will never get the optimum performance without it), but plug in filters can deliver you a working connection.

Are you sure about a filter being essential? I have just VDSL put on my POTS line without any master splitter or filters and it works great. No drops when the phone rings etc, and no real noticeable difference in sync compared to when I had VDSL at another property with a similar loop distance.

In fact the line is so stable within a day DLM had me on the 1ms/0INP  profile, something I didn't have when I had a dedicated pair at my old property.
