NonprayingMantis: www.spirittelco.co.nz  (mentioned above) is a division of NXT Telecom (whoever they are)

"NXT Telecom Limited (NXT Telecom) trading as Spirit Telco"

Yes well the info regarding their "hardware" http://spirittelco.co.nz/hardware.php claims that a Netcomm NB304N provides 3G mobile broadband. Oh dear!!

I would be interested to know if anyone still keeps on getting these calls.  As Richard has already said they are not from Telecom NZ so should be treated with a fair dose of scepticism.

I think these guys were really very up front with who they were and what they were offering.

"telecom" is a fairly generic term used to describe a telecommunications provider.

In my call, they clearly claimed they were from the wholesale division of Spirit Telecom, not at all any suggestion they were from Telecom New Zealand or any other provider.

They also very clearly explained a number of times that they could same me 30 to 40% on my existing rates without knowing anything about what I was currently spending or who with.

If as a consumer you're to stupid to see this for what it was, a cold calling sales team attempting to gain your business, then I really think more fool you.

Since 2talk is a nice considerate telco offering call recording, surely someone has a recording of one of these calls they can post up to soundcloud or something?

I had a hunt for the call but couldn't for the life of me find it.  I get odd stuff like that happening some times.

No, but how else would it have got to me?

It hit two ATA's at once iirc and my mobile.

Those put the ATA in the public IP space though don't they?  What if the ATA is behind NAT with no port forwarding on it?

Yes they do, I guess the response when behind a router would depend on what type of nat you ended up with for the outbound stuff.

Hey all first post here and yip just got a call from these guys about an hour ago, very unprofessional. The person who called me was obnoxious and when I told him he didn't know what he was talking about (VOIP an SIP servers) he got even ruder and hung up.

Glad to see someone in this thread has already whois these people and looked up registered businesses in NZ!

The whole thing reeks of a micky mouse ripoff outfit!

Cheers
James

Anyone here bought their "plans"?

I just got a call from my friend asking about this company, and he asked what their office number and website is. So, I googled the name and found this forum thread.

I'm not sure why a rep from the 'wholesale' arm of any company would call a consumer offering retail consumer services. A consumer would generally have no interest in buying anything off a wholesaler.

I have had a few customers get similar calls claiming to be from 'a department of Telecom' etc - the customers who entertained the call were invariably the elderly and were slammed.

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer Chorus NZ Ltd

Purely a sales spiel.  Offering 40% off my comms bill sounds attractive to me.  That's more than $50 a month and more like $100 for many people and I suspect these sales guys know it.

Haha they rang me and I asked if they could offer a 10 line SIP trunk. They had no idea and mentioned they probably couldn't help us :)

I'm not even sure if they do ISDN?
