I live on Richmond Rd, Ponsonby and Chorus ran fibre down our street late last year.

In January, Orcon offered to hook us up to fibre, and other ISPs had our address as active and available.  We are currently with Telecom on ADSL, and want to stay with Telecom so waited until today to try to buy.

Problem - Telecom say UFB is not yet live at our address. Now all other ISPs say the same.

Any ideas what would have caused the live, then not live status?

Frustrating to be so close to available!

Cheers
Andy

You are being fed mis-information. I was one of the first UFB installs in Grey Lynn and my fibre connection. comes straight off the Richmond road fibre installation you refer to. You can read my July 2012 write-up of the install process here:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=135&topicid=106897

And after someone in a street off Richmond road read my writeup they wrote to me and said they had contacted an ISP to sign up for UFB, and, like you, they were told it was not available in the area! So they referred the ISP to my post here on Geekzone. The ISP rechecked, and said "oh yes, sorry UFB is available either side of Richmond Road and beyond", and they got their UFB installation.

Send me a PM if you need more info, or would like to come and visit and view our installation.

Put your address into http://chorus.co.nz/maps. Some of Richmond Road says by April 2013, so may not be quite finished yet.

It takes a while from when Fibre is laid passed some people until the whole area is available for provisioning.

Edited: Some, not most.

Yea - it's says by April 2013 for my part of Richmond Road, but previously Orcon and others said it was live, and Orcon actively tried to sell to me.

What's confused me is why it is now not live when before it was.

I think you'll find from a Chorus perspective it was never live, Orcon/others just possibly made a mistake, or if it was a letter box drop they didn't stop dropping at the right letter boxes. ;-)

Orcon's site has previously told me that my street has fibre even though Chorus' site didn't show anything. They'd just finished digging up the street so I figured that fibre had gone in, but it ended up just being water pipes and fibre hasn't gone in yet :(
