i am surprised orcon does market it's satellite internet service on television because there is so many people out there that cannot get broadband and i am sure this would be very popular. i have never seen orcon market it's satellite internet service.

The trouble is that people moan and moan and moan about not being able to get broadband, and how they would happily pay for decent service, but when presented with decent service, even at a fair price considering its delivery method, they suddenly say "why should i pay that much for broadband when the rest of the country gets it cheaper?"

Yep, you're dead right Tony, there's no pleasing some people. I see that Jama and Brad have made various comments in another thread about how "Rural Users are going to be shafted". Well I've got news for them -- we have been shafted for a long time already

The fact is if you choose to live in a rural area, things ARE more expensive. You have to drive some distance to buy your groceries and the prices aren't what you would find in an Auckland suburb. Them's the breaks, and C'est la vie...

On the subject of satellite, what is the maximum download and upload speeds that the satellite can handle.

Wireless Nation can handle 2Mbps down / 1Mbps up as per the above link.

Maybe others can handle faster, but you will pay very very very DEARLY through the nose for it!

What I mean is, how fast without ISP limits can the satellite handle.

Many many Megabits for a Carrier Grade circuit, in fact it is probably way into the Gigabit range by now.

Cyril7 would be able to give you a better idea.

That's a good price considering it's sattellite, and actually not too harsh if you compare some other options (mobile) and of course, no mandatory $45 a month home phone needed!
