I live in an Auckland Apartment and understand that getting VDSL or UFB is problematic at best if if not impossible. As it is, my ADSL line rate is pretty terrible.

Are there ANY known apartment buildings that can get VDSL? Ones near the exchange? I'm seriously tempted to move to get decent internet speeds. Would apartment buildings closest to the Mayoral Drive Exchange by Airedale St be the best bet?

What about UFB? Do ANY Auckland Apartment buildings have plans to get UFB? Any at all? I Imagine it would be in the best interest of apartment owners / building managers as I see there would be huge demand for any apartments that are capable of getting UFB as it seems impossible at best for the majority of Auckland Central. :(

UFB in apartments is very rare at present due to the build requirements.

If you ADSL rates are rubbish VDSL isn't going to work.

There are a few buildings which have internal Chorus ISAMs (primarily due to being miles away from airedale street), The Docks down by countdown/vector is one example of this.

Look at the maps on the chorus site and use the pre qualification tools on ISP's sites to determine what services might be available where.

Note: VDSL in apartments - you may be "in zone" however extensive (and quite possibly crap) cabling within the building may mean attenuation is too high and the service will fail to stand.

I used to live NEXT to Mayoral Drive exchange and only got 15Mbps. I would say there was a lot of wire inside the exchange cabling to cause the amount of attenuation there. Some apartments do have ethernet or wifi provided by an ISP to the building.

Girlfriend and I are moving to Auckland at the end of the year, an will be in  the market for a 1 bedroom apartment in town, any recommendations? Probably want to spend 300pw excl expenses, or 400pw including.  Good internet is a must.

you'll probably want to slightly up your numbers by another 50-70$ unless you want to live in a shoebox

I'm in Q Central Apartments on Liverpool/Turner Sts, 150 m to Airedale exchange and get 60/10 on VDSL. Simple install, apartments are Star Wired to the hot water cupboard and all Cat5 so the Tech just replaced my Master splitter and I was all go.

UFB planned of next year and I'll be talking to the building manager about consents as getting fibre up the risers doesn't seem impossible.

The info I have is coverage extends to about Lorne St, so you should be good if everything else is ok.

Good luck with UFB -- and the body corp... they will probably take 6 months to vote on it and then ask why you can't use wireless.
