Hi

Chorus offer fibre to some rural addresses

See http://www.chorus.co.nz/rural-broadband-initiative/fibre-in-rural-community/fibre-to-rural-communities-1

To see an example you can use '1109 Tairua Whitianga Road, Coroglen' which is the Whenuakite exchange but will allow you to see the 'blue lines'  ie the areas you can connect in.

Does anyone know which ISP or RSP offer this service as the RSP needs to talk to Chorus and get a price.

Also can anyone tell me the POI for this area?  The schools are connected to the Tauranga RBI POI, but am not sure where the 'community' interconnect would be.

Thanks

godber

Go to:  http://www.chorus.co.nz/fibre-ready-subdivisions and below the map on this page you will see a table of ISPs who have handover links for fibre subdivisions in non-Chorus LFC areas.  These handover assets can be used to provide service to Rural Fibre customers.

The handover point for Coromandal RBI Fibre connections will be the main exchange in Tauranga.

And just a heads up, it seems Telecom isn't listed on that page. Although we do have many handovers across the country. I believe that is being worked on.

So TrustPower would be the RSP to talk to for Coromandal RBI Fibre connections, do you know if TrustPower have signed up to provide RBI fibre?

Just one other question is the number of RBI Fibre community connections public ie how many RBI Fibre community connections are there nationwide?

Or more specifically has anyone been connected to a RBI fibre community connection?

Many Thanks

So would Telecom offer Coromandal RBI Fibre community connections with the POI at the main exchange in Tauranga and would ringing/emailing Telecom get a reply to my enquiry?

Many Thanks

Can Chorus clarify the current status of this project is? I've seen Paul Brislen say a few times lately that this project has basically been canned.

Gerard Linstrom from Chorus in commenting 3 days ago on an NBR article (linked below) stated that it is available.

"an eligible property owner just needs to contact their ISP to get the ball rolling."

See http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/all-our-broadband-eggs-still-one-basket-dc-151797

But which ISP/RSP should the eligible property owner contact?

Cheers

Any ISP would be able to take this further with Chorus. Clearly an ISP is going to need a UFB handover in the area do be able to offer service though, since tails aren't available with UFB.

You might think so but I have tried a few ISPs and none of them know anything about RBI Fibre.

Can you suggest an ISP I should try, preferably one with a Fibre POI at the main exchange in Tauranga?

Which one do you suggest?  I googled this forum and many other places before even asking a question on the forum

I have tried Full Flavour Media and Trustpower are there others I have missed?

Sprecificially the ISP needs a Fibre POI at the Tauranga Central Exchange  "Full Flavour Media" do not have one so they cannot help and Trustpower is difficult because they are a big organisation and this is outside the square.

Tauranga is tricky because our handover here is with Ultrafast Fibre, not with Chorus.

I'd expect the other local ISPs to be in the same boat, except Trustpower.

Trustpower do Chorus BoFs so must have an interconnect locally.

Seems that none of them want my money, each and every one of the RSPs/ISPs you have mentioned I have called.  They all know nothing about RBI Fibre or maybe I should say their call centres no nothing about RBI Fibre.

Have finally found an RSP namely 'Vibe Communications' who might be able to help thanks to a pointer from 'myfullflavour' (Many Thanks)

My main point of this thread (apart from getting help for me) is that it is not easy if you are in an RBI Fibre area to find an RSP.

Trustpower even though they have an interconnect are not interested

They emailed me the following

"We only supply fibre in residential areas and not rural fibre at this stage.  We have no date on when we will be offering service to this area."

myfullflavour many thanks for your help, your suggestion re Vibe it at least allows me to get a price for the install from Chorus even though Vibe may not be able to connect me either :-)

'Tail Extension' should be a service that Crown Fibre should have specified that the LFCs provide for at the very least RBI Fibre.

Personally I think tail extension for any UFB/RBI fibre product should be available they way it is for ADSL/VDSL that way RSPs/ISPs would not have to have a POI in 32 exchanges (I think that is the number of UFB areas)

Email me "pl at telecom.co.nz" with some more details and I can see what the story is with the ufb project as I am working closely with them on the network side and I can check if Telecom already have a handover.
