Hey.

Sorry if this has been asked before. Couldn't find info.
Question being. Can a non Chorus LFC remove Chorus's network from the premises to install their own Fibre service? So that being Enable/NorthPower/Ultra Fast Fibre. I would presume no as Chorus own the network up to the ETP of the home. Usually on the outside wall. But also the main roll out details state all copper service would be removed from the house.

Copper connections to the house  - Disconnect -Yes / Remove - No (just the same as a VF Cable connection)

So do I have to tell chorus to come collect/disconnect an remove their lines when I demolish or move a house too?

Somehow seems weird to me that a company has rights to property on my land I can't have removed/replaced without their permission?

I asked about my copper and was told they won't touch it, also said if I ever sold the house, it gives who ever bought it the option for copper only.  Thats Ultrafastfibre.  My install is happening on Monday.

It's the same with any utility such as power or gas. Up to the demarc it's the providers problem. After that it's your problem.

I'm always surprised how complicated everyone likes to make it when it really is quite simple.

Basicaly yes / The Com. Com. has stipulated that the demarc will be the ETP or the first interconnection point in the internal network as the clarify that the service lead/cable is the property of the network provider (which basicaly the same as for Gas but unlike Power - where it is the pole fuse, and Water - meter or tobie), and because its not only the physical connection that should safely be removed but the records associated with that connection that also have to be adjusted if you demolish or remove a building. This basicly applies to all network providers not just Chorus,

And on the flip side is that they have to maintain it and repair it at no cost to you if it degrades.

Interesting question on ownership and property rights there, but presumably the bottom line is they have to come and disconnect / remove their lead-in from your property if you request?

However I vaguely remember him mentioning that Auckland City Council has required that Chorus remove the copper from properties that get connected with UFB. I could have hard this incorrectly though...

Not quite - Many of the Local Authorities have required as part of the RMA requirements for the installation of a UFB network is that if a Fibre Aerial Service Lead is installed then the Copper Aerial Service be removed ie 1 Put Up & 1 taken Down - That is why in many regions Spark (telecom) could not provide a UFB connection as @ the time they could provide a voice connection over the fibre.   In Areas serviced by Chorus as a LFC a combined Copper & Blown Fibre Aerial lead is being used in these case so its still 1 Up and 1 removed.
