Hello,

I have checked with Chorus and with Spark online (who I am with at present on VDSL) and I can now get UFB at my address. Checking online with Spark and Snap I can select the UFB option, but My Republic and Bigpipe both say it is not available. Should it be available with all providers or are only some available depending on the area you live?

David

it is dependant on where you live as some ISP's dont have hand overs in some areas

it could also be they havent updated their address checker with chorus' latest data

where do you live

Congrats! Myrepublic is nationwide and Bigpipe is Auckland only.

Chorus updates their fibre data every week. ISPs have to download it from and load it into their website. If they don't do this their site won't show you're fibre eligible.

You can contact the providers in question and ask for a prequal and they can verify manually that you can get fibre.

Might be not available with all suppliers. Or might be that some suppliers don't update their databases as often.
Best thing is to email whichever suppliers you are interested in and they can run a manual check.

thank you all for the replies. Another question I would like to know, is can you keep say your phone line with Spark and have your UFB with say My Republic. The reason I ask is that I work from home and have a home business number and we also have our home phone number, which I do not want to lose (of the cost to do it this way may be to great?). Also Spark UFB speed at the same price as VDSL is 30/10, on VDSL I already get 34 to 43 and just under 10 upload on the VDSL. Upgrading to the higher speeds would be about another $30 a month.

Oh and I live in Pukekohe

thanks again,
David

Fibre to the door is your own dedicated line, if you rely on copper services, it is unaffected. You have been thinking a long the lines of being victimised from the pre-unbundling days

thank you Khull, so I may look at keeping the phone lines with Spark and move elsewhere for the UFB. Will need to check out some prices.

WxC would be another options, especially if you have two lines: https://www.wxc.co.nz/residential/fusion/

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

In a similar situation to you, and went with Spark for ease of installation and phone with a plan to re-evaluate in a year.

Well contacted Spark to see if they were going to offer better speeds that the 30 down (slower than my VDSL), but not going to happen. Thought this would be the case, but really wanted them to know that as others are offering higher speeds for similar money, it may be time for them to review the offer. I am actually reasonably happy with my download speed (more power is always better :) but would really like to get faster upload speed as I use online backup for work files.
Oh well rant over.

Look at migrating your numbers to VoIP - it'll be cheaper than a POTS line with Telecom, you might save $60/month or more.

Thanks, that map has been saying "by Jan 2016" for most of Pukekohe for some time now. However it may be sooner if its already available for Davoid.
