Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I am the Geekzone Robot and I am here to help. I am from the Internet. I do not interact. Do not expect other replies from me.

@akoni Why don't you show us a traceroute on your connection?

Also please advise us what type of connection you have got xDSL , Cable or Fibre?

It might not be ISP related what you are experiencing could be other factors like WiFi etc..

I had a play around with some online traceroute tools, even from Hong Kong it was still a 220+ms ping.. looks like either that ISP or the Philippines in general has some fairly awful internet, and a quick look at http://www.submarinecablemap.com/ shows there are no real direct cables from here to there which is just exaccerbating it.

Information wants to be free. The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

i believe there are only 2 backhaul here in NZ to the world? VOCUS and CALLPLUS? correct?

as far as i know vodafone uses vocus. While  flip uses callplus  and snapchat uses callplus. Does spark also uses callplus?

which do you think is better for me in terms of backhaul so that i can choose isp?

philippines skype/hangout/viber to USA or JAPAN skype/hangout/viber have good results based from my wifes usage there. but philippines to new zealand vodafone skype/hangout/viber have pixelated video disconnection problem.
it all started when netflix was introduced here in nz...

upon checking it looks like vodafone have problems with interconnection to philippines??   Note: speedtest to vodafone nz will result to 9.98mbps down and 1.2up
so maybe vodafone/vocus partners in asia is slow...

This is PLDT global network map:

Here is the network map for most NZ ISP's with who they peer to etc: http://www.ispmap.co.nz/realtime.php

Basically there are a bunch of upstream providers all using different routes. I think anyone connected to Global Gateway is your best bet for a lower latency service but you also need to provide a little more details like your connection type, modem sync speed, location etc. It could well be you're connected to a congested cabinet.

For lower latency your best bets are Spark, BigPipe and Snap - Snap peer in much more places in NZ however what you're after is international connectivity. I've noticed that the speedtest server you've also posted is not the best for an actual speedtest and I am able to get 100+mbit on other servers around there with an average ping of 190-250ms.

Another thing is to make sure you're using Ethernet, this makes a massive difference in most cases and it is worth a shot.
