I don't see what this has to do with NZ.

The regulatory environments are very different, and it was actually the Commerce Commission here recommending prices go up (based on providers asking for copper to be moved to a forward looking cost model).

I've said it on here before but I'll say it again. I'm a fan of the copper pricing going up because it's only nominal, and it will encourage people off copper so it can be shut down.

Over the other side of the Tasman is a different story. Why they are even remotely considering copper anywhere in their NBN plan baffles me. 10, 20, 50 years from now copper internet is going to be absurd.

Personally I see a future where the internet becomes more like electricity. Typically when you move into a new property you don't think about what capacity you require, but rather you contact your provider of choice and tell them to start billing you. Fibre will allow us to take this approach.
