Sorry for the very noobie topic.

I read here and there about fibre affecting alarm monitoring and St John alarms and the like.
So I got to wondering, and I cant recall seeing it mentioned specifically anywhere, does that mean when you get fibre your ordinary telephone handsets wont work anymore?

Are there handsets that will work on both platforms?

Its not something I have to worry about for at least a year according to the Chorus map.

However, forewarned is forearmed and all that.

Just had ours installed.  They link the existing house phone network into the ONT.  House phones carried on as normal.

Thats good to know.
Will a corded phone continue to work in a powercut, or will it rely on the ONT being powered?

You'll need to put a UPS on the ONT to keep the phone working AOK!

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

ONT needs power. Get one of these, far more efficient than using a 230V UPS - no conversions Give you 5-6 hours battery life with a 7AH battery, if you want more life get a bigger battery - I just got some 33AH batteries.

With any luck, when the time comes, the ONT will be placed either by the server which has a big APC 1500 Smart-UPS all to itself, or by the router which shares a wee Eaton 5S with a network switch.

I had my ONT and router put in a top cupboard in the center of my house, out of the way.
