There's a bit of a story with this; I'll try to keep it short, but probably fail. :)


1) Spotted Fibre was available in my street on the Chorus website just before Christmas so rang 2 degrees and ordered it.


2) Got a call from Chorus a couple of weeks ago that they had scheduled the scoping visit for Fri 22/Jan and final install for Thurs 28 Jan. 


3) Called Chorus and confirmed appointments


4) I receive a text from 2degrees saying that my broadband request would be completed on Thurs 28/Jan.


5) Chorus guy arrived around lunchtime on Friday for scoping. He had a look, I told him my landlord didn't want cables attached to fences and he said they couldn't reuse copper conduit as I don't think there is a proper one, so we came up with a plan for a trench directly from road through front lawn to approx the same corner of the house where copper goes in. Chorus guy said they'd be back in an hour to start work (this was a surprise to me, but fine - Though I wish I'd known they just bury the cable naked like 5cm below the ground as I might have offered to dig a more decent trench myself and put some sort of conduit in place... but that's somewhat irrelevant to this thread - though I may start another one...)


6) Chorus did their work and finished around 6pm on Friday with the external work. At this point the Chorus guy says "Are you around tomorrow? I can come finish the rest of the work tomorrow."  I say fine by me.


7) Chorus arrive on Saturday and mount\connect the ONT then want the new "modem" from my ISP because he can connect it now. There's a bit of confusion because I tell them that my Fritzbox 7490 that I've been using for VDSL is also the Fibre "router" but he's obviously not seen one before, and is confused by the lack of WAN port. I tell him that I think the LAN1 port is also used as WAN port, so he gets me to phone the service desk and they confirm LAN1 is WAN port, and walk me through the couple of settings changes needed to re-purpose it for use with fibre instead of VDSL. The 2 degrees helpdesk guy is very helpful but somewhat bemused by why Chorus wants to switch it on now as his system is telling him that chorus said they would do it on 28/Jan. 


8) After some consternation from 2 degrees about whether everything that needs to be provisioned will have been, we change settings and find that the fibre connection "Just works" Awesome! :) I try a speedtest and get just over the 200/20 I signed up for. Sweet!




Anyway, I just thought I would share my UFB install story. It's not always months and months of waiting ;-) (Though I suppose we did wait months and months for them to finish the work on the street - but once that was finished it was a pretty damn quick process getting connected.)

What part of the country are you in?


How many Chorus guys showed up for your install?

Same part of the world.


Noticed UFB was available late november.


Ordered via ISP around 28 November last year.


Had to get signoff from neighbors as a cross lease situation - They were all fine with this but for some reason the chorus online acceptance form failed for one of them so that held things up. 


18 December a chorus guy calls me while I was at work out of the blue to say that he is 'going to have a look in about 10 minutes'. Fortunately my wife was able to get home and talk to him about where the install would go.


22 December - email from ISP to say that all consent was ok and it was passing on to the Chorus design stage (He came last week?)


14 January - Noticed some guys wandering around the driveway before I went to work. They were talking to the neighbor - He just happened to see them and was talking to them about UFB and how it would be connected to his house - but hasnt ordered anything yet. They spent several hours running the PVC pipe down the fence and opened up a gap between the driveway slabs and ran the cable to the side of the house. Neat enough job.


No idea what is happening next - I am not complaining or in a huge rush - but apart from the guy saying 'I am having a quick look' on 18 December, there hasnt been a lot of communication from Chorus. 


Cross leases no doubt make the situation worse...
