We had to wait 11 months for property manager of next door to locate the property owner and get them to sign the consent for our UFB install down the Right of Way. As it had been so long, we'd decided to change providers however that alone has taken just over a month. Apparently Chorus got the signed consent in late October and I've requested UFB just today. Will that signed consent still be valid or will I need to chase the next door owner again? When I asked Chorus initially about this I got told 'it's valid for a few months' and at the time figured it'd be done within that timeframe so didn't really push for a more concrete answer. I'm hoping "few" is greater than 4 in this case.

Changing providers will have slowed the whole process down.

Who needs to sign a Chorus consent form?

If the Property Manager is authorized by the owner to act on their behalf (under the management contract) then we Chorus will accept the Property Manager's signature on a consent application.

This is not the case for every property management contract, so it varies from case to case.  Property manager's will know whether they are authorised to sign.

Is there a time limit?

Chorus does not impose a time limit on consents once they are granted, consents remain valid provided none of the following change:

  • Change of ownership of property or change to the title
  • Change of Chorus end-user terms

If you get consent from the owner of a property and take a while to get around to choosing a service provider - do not panic! you have plenty of time to make your choice.
