Slingshot/Telstra Clear seem to have been the two most reliable major ISPs over the last 6-8 months.

Sperrie: I hope it helps us.

I think you mean I hope it helps you.

You may want to run a spell check through your site, there are a few spelling errors.

Detruire: As soon as I post them on those forums I get niaz and the "Xnet hawt" brigade telling me to diaf and other things I'm not going to repeat.

They were definitely still slow last night. It took ~3 minutes to download a 5MB file. (I've given up looking at the speeds, they're so pathetic.)

You reckon 3 minutes to download a 5MB file is slow Check this thread out in the Slingshot part of the Geekzone forums http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=81&TopicId=19567 I know this was posted last month but it does go to show that no ISP is above having slow connection problems. My son is a gamer and I dont get any grizzles from him about our internet connection with Xnet

Here is my speed I am getting at the moment on Orcon:

It has been like that for a few months now, but for a "unlimited" speed plan I was expecting more! (as my friend has faster download speeds and he was with xnet)
Oh and when they switched us from the caped speed to the "unlimited" speed there was no change at all in the speed :(

And 1 more thing I would like to say is, how come our internet costs are so high here in NZ, some friends in the US pay US$29 a month for there internet and it hasn't got a Cap on how much you can download, but it does have a cap on the speed, but still the speed is double of what I get here :( and still I pay over double of what he pays, this just makes me cry!!

Oh and 1 last thing,
In this day and age, there are more and more things available on the internet, like movies (1080p HD) that kind of thing we can't download here because just one movie will take out our 1 months internet usage :( oh and we get to pay for the movie and then pay to download it too, that doesn't sound fair to me :( (no wonder people pirate so much stuff nowadays)

(PS, sorry if my spelling and grammar isn't the best, I do my best to get it readable.)

kfella2000: My son is a gamer and I dont get any grizzles from him about our internet connection with Xnet

With the odd exception (like the Optus issue) gaming has always been fine for me. I don't play bandwidth-intensive games, so only low pings matter to me. That is one of a few things I've hardly ever noticed as issue with.

Re Slingshot's issue: I know that no ISP is perfect, but compare the (recent) Slingshot complaints against the (recent) Xnet ones, and there's a rather large inequality in complaints.

It looks fine. You have to take in consideration lots of factors - how far are you from your exchange or cabinet, how good is the wiring condition in your house, and other stuff.

As for your other comments, you should open a discussion for those because they are off topic on this thread... And welcome to Geekzone.

Yea I did once move the router/modem around a bit and tried it on some different places in the house, and found one that had the fastest speed.
I think the exchange ie just down the road from where I like (not even 1km away).

Ah yes now that you mention it, I was a bit out of topic there, sorry about that I will repost it somewhere else as you subjected.

Thank you for the welcoming!
