I live in Christchurch, so Enable is the LFC. Contractors are just finishing up our street install, we have the red duct at the boundary, and the local cabinet is in place.

Can anyone provide guidance on approximately how long it takes from the time the contractors have finished in the street to the time when my address starts showing up as 'fibre available' in the various RSP's systems?

None of the leaflets they put in the mailbox indicate how long I should expect to wait.

If anyone can shed some light on this (bonus points for an explanation of the steps that need to happen during this period) it would be much appreciated!

The only realistic answer to your question is "as long as it takes".

There are plenty of threads on here discussing this very same question, but in a nutshell streets are build out one at a time and when an area is complete it'll go live. This could realistically be from a few weeks to a few months.

Fair enough, thanks. I will attempt to wait patiently...

You should start to get snail mail 'To the householder' from various ISPs once fibre is finally available at your address.

DarkShadow: Does Enable still drop off boxes Weetbix once fibre is ready?

They did in February when my neighbourhood went live, but by then some of the ISP availability maps were showing I could get UFB. Of note to the OP, we had the red ducts at the boundary in October - so patience is advised.

Think months, not weeks.  undecided

In my case, think years (Dec 2019)

Helpful replies, thanks. I am having VDSL issues at present and I am weighing up whether it's worth trying to resolve them, or just wait for fibre. Looks like I might be better trying to get it sorted now rather than waiting...

So, to bring this thread to a conclusion, and for the benefit of others waiting patiently in Christchurch, this was my timing (owner-occupied dwelling, close to street, standard install, no phone connection):

- Street construction work finished in late May

- Email from Spark confirming fibre availability on 7 July. Place order online.

- Contacted by Enable on 10 July to arrange install visits.

- Scoping visit on 13 July

- Civil work done on 21 July

- Final internal install done 29 July

Everything went very smoothly, and I was impressed with the speed at which Enable did their thing - part of me was expecting to wait months. Very happy to be up and running at 100/20!

Geez thats quick, the street works for me were finished 2 months ago and I am still waiting, I received my letter saying what streets were being done and walking around those streets the work has been completed, the cabinets are installed but I'm still waiting.

The original letter did say ready by November so I will have to keep being patient.
