So my dad lives just out of Rotorua in a suburb called Tikitere i found this excel file after doing a google search of "chorus cabinet upgrade tikitere" but i cant make light of it , wondering if some smart cookie could possibly let me know what it means .

the local cabinets currently has old conklins in it

here is the link
https://www.chorus.co.nz/file/74070/..._May_2016.xlsx

here a screenshot of said spreadsheet

Does this mean the cabinet is going to get upgraded to "DSLAMS" ?

Just wondering what kind of a upgrade it would be ? like ADSL2 or some placebo upgrade , any responses on this matter would be appreciated , the cabinet is LYE/B

I'm guessing its part of the RBI cabinet upgrades

https://www.chorus.co.nz/hundreds-of-northlanders-benefit-from-broadband-upgrades

"Before the cabinet upgrades, these areas in Northland could generally only access broadband speeds of between 1 and 5Mbps. However, during peak times, those speeds would likely slow considerably.

Following the upgrades, residents and businesses should now be able to experience speeds of between 10 and 20Mbps, depending on the distance to the broadband cabinet."

So all going well he should get ADSL2 speeds

So it looks like LYE/B is located on the corner of SH30 and SH33, which is still quite a distance from where Google tells me Tikitere is, (Google says about 3.6km, and that's assuming the cable follows the main road)

Depending on how far your Dad is from that intersection, he may not get a huge increase in connection speed, but if they are replacing a Conklin with a fibre fed cabinet, then he should actually be able to attain his connect speed, rather than fighting with 50 other users for a single DSL backhaul.

I'm sure someone more qualified will be along shortly :-)

If it's 200 metres you should be able to get VDSL.
