Does anyone have access to an updated Chorus cabinet locations map? The only links I've found on these forums are dead.  I'm trying to find out the location(s) of the cabinet(s) in Featherston (S. Wairarapa)

Thanks

DjShadow: Try gis.geek.nz

It's _way_ out of date for cabinets, they have the beta/updated version but that seems to be cell towers only. The about section seems to indicate that the cabinet data is from 2013.

If you are really motivated you can download the spreadsheet of all cabinet locations from Chorus, convert the coordinates from NZTM to long/lat and find locations that way, but it's a bit painful.

Information wants to be free. The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've sent an email to Chorus asking for an up-to-date list. Let's see how we get on.  If I get anything I'll post it here somewhere

The location of the Vodafone Otematata(North Otago) cell tower is wrong. The latitude is correct but the longitude is wrong. It is located iright next door to the Spark tower at a location known locally as Tin Hat Bluff.

Just had an email from Chorus telling me that the locations of their cabinets is commercially sensitive and that they are unable to provide that information.

Don't they have a monopoly on residential fibre in their areas of operation? Who could possibly hope to gain advantage from that information?

I can source that information without going to Chorus directly. At the end of the day the location of your cabinet is irrelevant. The length of your copper run is. Best to query that with your ISP if your having speed problems.

If your planning on running it over so it gets upgraded, It gets replaced with like equipment :)

"commercially sensitive" ?????

What dumb bean counter wrote that email?
AFAIK it's a matter of public information AKA they have to inform everyone what is going on...

Not exactly. They own the network and it is commercially sensitive. What if you were disgruntled and wanted to take out a chorus cabinet or how ever?
There is no reason a consumer needs to know where their cabinet is.
The cable run is never directly back to the cabinet anyhow. So you cant just assume it goes that direction.

Please elaborate how this information should be available to the public.
There isnt anything to ascertain from a location of a cabinet.

There info is there, Which is cool. Still it doesnt mean anything for us consumers.
Commercially sensitive is probably the wrong word to use as it wont affect their income etc but just something you wouldnt want to go giving out to every man and his dog.
