After the initial install, how common are fibre related problems or ISP/Chorus miscommunication that result in Chorus to enter the house and work on the ONT for example?

 

 

 

If you've experienced these visits, what was generally the problem and for how long have you had fibre?

Generally fibre has less callouts than Copper.

 

 

 

Thing with fibre is, you have very limited situations where a fault has occurred.

 

 

 

Optical fault, Chorus come out.

 

Otherwise, it is a fault which is remotely managed or a device issue on your end.

 

 

 

 

 

Unlike copper you don't have cases where the connection is possibly just managing to work, it will work or it wont.

Absolutely, it is more rare for intermittent operations to be an individual line fault however.

Have had fiber for around 4 years now and have never had a problem needing chorus, it's been install and forget. At work where we look after 2500+ fiber sites [schools] we've had one or two ONT power supplies fail in the last 3 years, it's typically farmers or road workers digging up fiber which causes any issues.

Had fibre for over 4 yrs. Had one problem 14 mths ago where the fibre got broken at the roadside cabinet. (Being an early adopter, the tray that had my fibre on it, had been opened and closed a lot of times for adding adoptees). They blew another fibre to the house. 

 

Wouldn't be worrying about ONTs. They are inherently reliable.

 

And you don't have to worry about rain downpours any more!

Thankfully our fibre is provided by Unison, not Chorus.  And after an excellent install, put exactly where we asked after consultation with us, they've never had to come back.  That was ~3 years ago.

We've had fibre a bit under a year, and have had one instance of our connection being knocked out during a neighbour's install - similar to linw above. Only took Chorus a day to resolve, and involved only work in the pit up the road.

I've had fibre since Jan 2015 and Chorus has only been out twice; once for the initial temporary overhead install, then several months later to move it underground. I've had a single fault and it didn't require a Chorus visit.

Ain't never had them come back, since the install went live in Feb 2016.

Installed November 2016 and no revisits since.

Neighbour had fun even getting installed. 20+ visits in my estimation.

Speaking as someone who fixes fibre faults - I attend approx 3-4 jobs a day - mostly to do with broken connections caused by either someone accidental breaking a fibre when installing someone else or some one vandalising something (includling taking the power supply with them when they move out.)

 

Several a week when there is phone issues ( 9 times out of ten its a copper house wiring issue which would happen anyway if on fibre or not)

 

and maybe only 1 a month when there is an ONT issue

The few fibre faults I've seen at work (~100sites) have been due to technicians interfering in a cabinet while working on someone else's connection (like above)or a card fault.

I got fibre around July 2015, and apart from some difficulty setting up voice over fibre, I've had very few problems with it since.

So, the summary is faults can occur caused by others messing with stuff, and generally its been a set and forget, thats my personal experience as well.

as predicted in my initial post ;)

 

 

 

I totally didn't spend a few months looking after the Fibre Queue to base that knowledge on too.

 

Fibre is what i'm better chorus wish copper was, Reliable except in the event there is Actually a fault caused.
