I am lucky enough to have UFB available on the street.  Put my order with BigPipe a couple of weeks ago.  Tomorrow is the day for the scoping visit.

 

However, I still have not get a phone call from Chorus to confirm such visit (no test message or email either).  Does it mean it is not going to happen?  It is a bit disappointing because I have to make arrangement with my employer to stay home, and it will be very bad if the scoping visit does not happen and I need to arrange it for another day.

 

It will be great if Chorus can realise many people need to work and it is not a small effort to stay home for such visits.  A confirmation call a day or two before the appointment will be very helpful.

 

Can anyone share your experience?

Unfortunately the way the service companies treat jobs is fairly seat of their pants - you won't hear from anyone until they're coming on the day, usually, and you SHOULD hear from someone if things aren't going to go forwards, but that'll also probably be on the day, due to how the staff resourcing works.

If it's anything like how my day plays out - Think of it as first in first served

 

Walking into the office, finding 20 'scheduled' (or promised) jobs that day. Average time known to said jobs so x number handed out to engineers in the hope all can be completed. Start with first job, estimated time to install blows out tenfold, rest of day is screwed. This is why scheduled stuff often can't come with guarantee times nor often make all the install dates. 

 

Or we would all be sitting down venting money turning down work to make the promised times for 2 jobs a day. 

 

You can plan for estimates, you can't plan for promises.

It is totally random

 

Sometimes I get a call from Chorus and/or the field company and/or the tech

 

the day before and/or early the morning of the scope and/or some random time before arriving and/or when they are onsite and/or after they been

 

sometimes they don't show (generally happening less) and sometimes they just turn up, the reception person shows them the comms room and they scope the site and we don't here from them at all (I deal with mostly business)

 

 

 

I had one great install in Nelson, where I spent about a month arguing with Chorus that it was a MDU, as it was a block of shops (they had the whole block as 1 address and unit) and had to send them a heap of information, photos, building WOF. They then decided it actually was an MDU and they had already done the MDU build so they booked a scope, we advised the staff onsite that Chorus was going to scope the site, the tech turned up and decided to install the UFB that day too. The install was meant to be 4 weeks later and we hadn't ordered any hardware for the site yet.

To my pleasant surprise, three gentlemen showed up just before 9am and they are doing a full install now! No need to wait another two weeks for the actual install.

when I had mine done last September I did not get a call for scoping either, a dude just turned up on arranged morning, said sweet, can I do it now? another dude then turned up and they did the install rather than the pre-arranged time a week later.

 

However, at work in the city, I had a call the Friday before confirming we are open for the scoping the following Monday. The dude then turns up says he might be back the following day for the install but would let me know. He rocks up the next day, no forward warning and starts the work. It was good to have it done 10 days early, but if he is deviating from the scheduled time and says he would call back if he is doing it early, they should call back and confirm that. Seems the engineers just do it how they please, nevermind the work schedulers.

What part of West Auckland are you in? I'm in Massey and the digging seems to have stopped momentarily after starting two weeks ago.

Well, mine was seamless.

Chorus rang me the a couple of weeks earlier to tell me install date then installer rang me the day prior to confirm scoping date. Turned up on time then arranged date the following week.

The day prior he rang to check everything was good for the next day and asked if he could pop round 530pm that night to do an hour work while light was good. Fed the cable into roof space with fibre within.

Next morning drilled holes connected everything and finished after an hour.

So there are nice experiences.

For us at work (in Christchurch) the scope was done 6 weeks ago then the outside (civil) work 3 weeks ago.

 

The inside work was done as planned this week but we are not yet connected.

 

The outside guys found that the allocated "tube" was unavailable (already used for next door) but they did not organise to get another tube allocated.

 

We then waited for the "design team" to allocate a tube and now we are waiting for a traffic management plan to be done.

 

Who knows how long it will take? Unfortunately with Enable being a monopoly here they seem to have no inclination to "get their act together".

That was my experience.  They will do a lot of digging for two weeks.  Then about three months later, UFB should be available.

 

You can use Chorus' website to check the estimated date for your address.  It is quite accurate.
