Anyone got or getting some form of UFB in or near Central Terrace, Kelburn, Wellington.

I have an acquaintance who says they requested broadband some months ago, but ISP says call Chorus, and Chorus says talk to your ISP!

Knowing what the neighbours have might help sealed

UFB fibre build is complete and fibre is available to residents of Central Terrace, Kelburn.

The process is;

Note:There are several intermediate and supporting steps but you might be reading this on a phone, so for brevity;

1. Chorus built the network down the street. This has been done in this instance.

2. Customer now calls their ISP & orders a fibre circuit.

3. SP orders fibre tail and advises Chorus what size tail to deliver, where to handover the traffic and who to bill.

4. Chorus builds from road to house & installs fibre modem & commissions fibre circuit.

5. Fibre service goes live.

If you do it in any other order, how does Chorus know where to connect the fibre to, or who to bill or what size circuit to build ??????

If your ISP doesn't want to take your order - there are only 85+ other ISPs to choose from.

Rickles:

ISP says call Chorus

That's not something a competent ISP should do.

Your friend is paying your ISP to arrange the fibre connection. This includes handling all companies with their suppliers (ie calling Chorus). They should not ask the customer to do their work for them.

If the ISP doesn't step up their game, there're many others to choose from (as mentioned).

Have they tried again recently? Things might have changed since.

I had an issue with VDSL between the ISP availability tool saying one thing and Chorus' saying another. I only talked to the ISP to sort it out.

As others have said, if one ISP doesn't want to do anything...  there's always another to try.

Thank you all for your input ... pretty much as I surmised, and had preliminarily told acquaintance same thing.

What a useless ISP - they should be sorting this out for your friend, not palming them off to do their job. Chorus would (rightly) say talk to the ISP anyway.
