Hi all,

Wondering what the best fibre (et al) ISP in Wellington is? I've been with NOW NZ (who were great), but being a renter I'd prefer an ISP who doesn't make me have a term/contract. From what I can see these are my options:

  • Voyager
  • WorldNet ($99 install fee)
  • Econofibre
  • Bigpipe ($49 install fee, and unlimited data)
  • Kiwilink
  • Unlimited internet
  • 2talk

Or I could commit and go with either NOW NZ or Inspire who seem like the best for service.

Cheers,

Ryan

Voyager and Bigpipe are both usually considered very good, although there has been a recent thread with grumblings about Bigpipe support.

Voyager gets a public (sticky) IP address. Bigpipe is CGNAT.

Without defining "best" your question is pretty open ended.

What are your requirements?

I still say BigPipe is one of the better ISP's to go towards however Voyager is also good.

I'm with Voyager (In auckland tho), and for a one off fee of $14.95 you can get a static anyway :) I've had extremely little issues with them and have been recommending them to family and friends.

I seem to have a static with voyager anyway. There was an IP in the email I got with provisioning info and I dont recall paying them for it.

Stuff Fibre offer off contract accounts and I have read and heard good feedback about them. They currently use Vocus but I believe they are changing wholesaler.

EDIT; In light of SBiddle's post below I will add a caution regarding Stuff Fibre.

They moved away from Vocus a while ago. I'm just not sure of their reliability - while everybody has outages they have had a few including a near full day one a couple of weeks ago.

The voting process was also extremely bias and basically bought.

Everybody has outages at one time or another so it has to be put in context - it was very telling however that Stuff didn't report a near 12 hour outage. If it has been Vodafone or Spark it would have been front page news!

I did assume that. Just wanted it confirmed.
