Voyager is waiving it's fibre installation fee, so it's quite tempting especially considering the cost of it's static IP. Bigpipe seems to be more regularly recommended on here with some exceptions, and I'm just curious if anyone has anecdotes about the quality of either.

Voyager often seem to provide a static IP on UFB at no charge. Either way, even if not static, it's public unlike Bigpipe.

 

Pretty rare to see a complaint about Voyager - they seem to do pretty well in that regard.

We have about 25 clients on Voyager and I would have to say that almost without exception they have been excellent. The bonus being actual phone support!

I'm on their VDSL, no complaints here, static IP was one off $14.95 vs $20+ per month with other providers.

I would lean towards Voyager purely because I've had good dealings with them in the past. Never dealt with Bigpipe.

 

Fantastic network. Voice platform is slightly average in terms of "Cloud PBX" features. Support is Mon-Fri (although that may have changed since their bigger push for residential tails).

 

Bigpipe only hand over in Auckland. So if latency between other tails in the country matter that's not so good. But for general use means absolutely nothing.

I'm with both Voyager and BigPipe (2 different locations) and both are excellent.

 

BigPipe at home because I solve most of my own problems (and also have got pretty good service from them in the past) and Voyager at my parents place as they are quite responsive both to emails and on the phone. I've noticed lately that BigPipe have not been as responsive lately to emails likely due to the Christmas period but generally they're quite good.

I've just signed up for Voyager VDSL - moving house in January to a non-UFB area, complete change of career (Presbyterian Minister (trainee) 'coz IT is too easy), etc.

 

They do voice which is nice if you just want one bill - and $10/mo for a voice line with unlimited national tolls and very competitive mobile rates is a good deal.  If you ask nicely they will let you do voice without buying their router, even if the online signup form won't let you order it that way.

 

DSL is all backhauled through Auckland, just like Bigpipe.  UFB is terminated closer by, unlike bigpipe (?).

 

I rang their phone support to see what it was like prior to order, and they answered within a couple of minutes (was Canterbury anniversary weekend) and the guy I spoke with was extremely helpful and happy to talk technical stuff - and he clearly knew his stuff.

I will probably be adding a second connection at home soon on bigpipe - had one before and it was all good but slashed it to reduce expenditure. Main connection is with voyager. Thats so when UFB happens next year I can get one moved over and leave the other on crappy VDSL so I have internet when the inevitable Muppet in the fiber pit breaks things happens like has happened to many people I know of fiber.

 

 

 

Voyager have been fine, but were very reluctant to just get chorus out last time it rained and DSL went to trash. I think they have fixed it somewhat better that time since its rained since then and the connection has stayed up. Other than their slowness to send a tech without me agreeing to the pointless 24hr line monitoring carry on they do to try to avoid sending techs, they have been fine. Bigpipe were fine sending the tech at the first sine of degregation after rain.

I quite liked Voyager, just the connection turned to crap towards the end. I reluctantly went back to Spark and it's been fine since, without me changing anything on my setup. No idea what caused that. A pity, as Voyager were quite good (even when I told them I was leaving and explained why). If my situation ever changes I'd go back and give them another try.
