First time here, need some help please. I did some searching first but as always with technology there are some subtle differences Smile, hence this post.

I have been using a D-Link DSL-502T with my home PC and XBox for some time (via xtra), without problem, just swapping the cable between devices.

I have now bought a TP-LINK TL-WR642G 108Mbps Wireless Router w/4ports which I am trying to setup with the D-Link adsl modem. Following the instructions (as you do) I got most of it set up, but cannot access the internet from my home PC when connected through the wireless router.

The WAN section of the wireless router dashboard does not get populated with anything automatically like it should. I followed these instructiions here http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=143 . It does mention 'bridge' mode whatever that is?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Unlikely you have PPPoE so instructions wouldn't apply. The ADSL modem should do the PPPoA VC MUX authentication. Use either static or dynamic IP WAN interface option in router.

This seems a common issue, folk buying a wireless router when they actually only need an AP. As the Dlink will not do half bridge without some effort the simply fix is to not use the router in the TPlink just the wireless AP, this means that you connect the ethernet port of the Dlink to one of the lan ports of the TPlink, not the WAN port. But before you do that you must do two things, first go into the TPlinks setup, turn off the DHCP server, then move the LAN (not WAN) address of the TPlink into the same address space of the Dlink so you can easily administer it.
