Just wondering what the options for cancelling a Fibre contract are before installation? My elderly parent have been talked into switching to Fibre by a door to door salesman and the "deal" looks pretty rubbish.


Sure it looks very slightly better than their current ADSL, but only because they've been way overpaying for that for years...  they agreed to it 7 or 8 days ago but only got the confirmation email today - prompting them to let me know and yeah it just looks like a crap deal, especially since multiple providers are offering 3 months free or 6 months half price, etc


They have not had it installed yet but rang me slightly stressed because they're now outside some 5 day cancellation period, but given it's not even installed yet can they cancel without any penalty?


(Does not matter which company at this stage as I said they should ring them and try to get a better deal or cancel it first, so want to give said company a chance before naming...)

Legally probably not. The fact it hasn't been installed yet is largely a moot point - they entered into a contract and are now outside the 5 day cooling off period.

Hopefully said company plays nice then. Seems like a fairly cheap tactic sending door to door salesmen around to lock existing customers into new contracts for significantly more than they're offering to new customers (and without the various extra bribes they offer new customers)

The door to door sales cooling off period is 5 days from receiving a copy of the agreement, not from the date of the sale. Not clear if the "confirmation email" is the agreement or just notice of being installed though. There are also plain language requirements that you might be able to revert to if you need to play hardball.

The 5 days referred to is 5 working days.

Hmm, so reading those comcom details they are just outside 5 day cool off (agreed last Sunday, salesperson emailed something through immediately which I guess means mon-fri was the 5 working day cool off)


My parents are sure he didn't verbally tell them about the right to cancel before they agreed as he should have according to those docs though...

Given its fibre and the fibre process for installation requires sign-off on the fibre method, is it not possible they could wait for the Chorus plans and then say they are not happy with the method, blocking the process?
