2 years ago I was considering Bigpipe before I opted for a contract with 2degrees. At the time they had really sharp pricing and glowing reports here...now not so much...

Voyager is looking quite attractive at the moment.

LittleDude:

I asked Bigpipe if they are going to pass this increase from 100/20 to 200/20 on to their customers and if or how their pricing/plans will change.

The response...

Bigpipe "For our 200/20 speed, we offer UFB Pro which is $99 per month. If yo signed up for a 12 months contract with us we can give you a free bigpipe modem that will best suit your fibre connection speed."

Me "But if Enable is increasing the 100/20 to 200/20 at no cost to you, are you not going to pass it on to your customers? That is what you have indicated to me. Voyager has announced they will pass it on."

Bigpipe "We don't have any plans at changing pricing at this stage. We understand other providers are competitive however at this stage we aren't offering any further promotions.

I understand if the other offer is attractive and if you choose to switch you can send us a disconnection request through the website. :)"   Have I misunderstood the Enable announcement or are Bigpipe just pocketing the difference?

Sounds to me like you asked their front line?

they have given absolutely the correct response, a non committal response.. letting you know the current offerings you can take up.

being bigpipe are moving to our network soon, they are pretty busy working on wider things.

but if you pay attention to the thread, the 200mbit plan has two options a rsp can go with... being how new this is, it's highly likely that discussion has not happened yet.

When something is set in stone, I'm sure bigpipe will gladly announce their plans; they have always been pretty upfront :)

I'm sure they are busy but I feel lately they are not keeping up with the competition. A lot of the points they use to market themselves don't really ring true any more when nearly everyone offers naked unlimited broadband, often at lower prices.

I just realised my old bookmark for Bigpipe appears as "BIGPIPE. LOW PRICE" ...their words not mine but they've changed that now :)

Bigpipe/Spark seems to have a lot of "It's not something we can talk about/it's in the pipeline/I can't talk about that right now" going on. It's going to cost them customers hand over fist. When another company states they will in fact be upping the service that is available at the same price, and another company (front line or not) says "We don't have any plans to change pricing at this time" the customer is going to switch, it would absolutely stupid not to. I hope someone at BP/Spark that is high up is actually taking feedback on, otherwise, they will become one of the worst companies out there, where they used to be one of the best.

As a (former) customer, it's extremely annoying to keep hearing they don't care about what the customers want (take note, this is how the customer takes it, no matter how you try to spin it). There is literally no reason to go with BP right now, especially with the lack of transparency over things like pricing. When the competition is able to keep up with the wants and needs of the customer base faster and in some cases, better than you are, it's a failure on your part, no matter what else is going on. It seems at this point, Spark/BP have their priorities screwed up big time.

I’m with Spark. Got a year and a bit on my contract, if nothing done by then I’ll switch.

People not on contract can switch and get higher speed with another ISP.
With them being a bigger ISP maybe it’s more complicated, to make sure everything works at peak time.
Still probably be a good idea to tell people what to expect, as some may just jump ship with no information.

Will be getting fibre soon and was sussing out the options, the Spark offering was superior to BigPipe and cheaper on top. Used the online BigPipe chat to talk to them and they're like "wow yep that's a better deal. Was there anything else? :)"

So it absolutely doesn't surprise me they aren't passing on any benefit.

I'm with Unlimited Internet & they are unaware of Enables announcement. So I copied & pasted the web page to them. Unlimited Internet were only interested in charging me $25 for the speed change & the increased monthly price for 200/20 plan. As I have 100/20 at the moment. I replied in saying, i'll just wait this out..

Enable's response was "We are unable to help you with pricing please call the service provider to discuss further."

I emailed back today saying "Is anyone going to stand.behind this news release than pass the buck"?

So at this point in time nobody knows anything about it & unwilling to help.

It is absolutely not up to Enable to help you with the relationship or products you have with your RSP.

Unlimited Internet clearly don't care and must have their heads in the sand if they are "unaware" of the announcement.

Enable should 100% not discuss pricing with you.

To bmt

That's the response I got. I guess their attitude hasn't changed...unless we both got the same person on the helpdesk.

Exactly, you pay Unlimited every month, not Enable.

2degrees told me it could take until Xmas to move me from 100/20 to 200/20. If I had realised that earlier I would have already switched to Voyager...doing it tonight :)

Interesting as a lead on from a thread I was just responding to about Internet speed on a 100Mbit fibre connection being a little lower due to 100Mbit Router.

That raises an issue for ISP's like Orcon for my brother who have given him an old stock 2.4Ghz only 100Mbit router - If they are going to pass on the free upgrade to 200 they are going to have to send out some new routers.

They should anyway I think as the wifi capabilities on their routers don't come close to a 100Mbit through put - They are old stale devices.

Not sure how common this is though but pretty rubbish.

I have not received any specific information regarding Spark and/or Bigpipe's plans to migrate existing customers from 100/20 to 200/20 in the Enable catchment area, and the same goes for new customers connecting for the first time. However I have posed the question to people higher up within the company, asking for some clarification on what needs to happen before Spark and/or Bigpipe will be in a position to offer our customers this deal. As soon as I have received feedback on this, I expect I will be able to comment further.
