SWMBO wants me to review internet options again....... so here I am ;)

Whats Stuff Fibre like these days ? As good as anyone else ?

Their plans don't appear too bad apart from contract period.

TIA

that article is careful not to mention that they are actually Just using RouteThis's App integration.

Can't say i've heard anything bad about their network, being backed by Devoli they do have a good foot in the door.

I guess it's easy to be the "best provider" when you don't have to actually operate a network.

You can get Fibre Max from 2degrees for $90/month with a 2d mobile. I would rather a provider who is actually responsible for the entire service and has complete control.

They have a(nother) deal on at the moment and its $75/mth for 12months (I think if you sign up for 12months) + $200 credit + prime video for a year.  Dont think you'll find better than that to be honest!

Yeah saw that.....  I did look at them before my last switch but I needed a static which was crazy price via 2D.  Static no longer needed so they are back on the list.

Thats why I am with Bigpipe, Static IP is just a one off provisioning fee and do 100/100

Thats who I'm currently with - happy with them but for a few $$ more can get "gigabit" and phone service elsewhere (TBH, I can live without phone but wife says she cant) for a few $$ more. We use 2Talk for phone at the moment which has been fine as well but if someone can offer everything in one hit, then its obviously more appealing to SWMBO and looks after the bills ;)

Be aware that with 2d you'll be behind CGNAT. In case you haven't seen the thread: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=255661

Pay the $10 for a public, static IP and all sorted - includes an IPv6 allocation too. Or just whinge and moan like the people in that thread and you might get a free one.

Still a good deal with the joining credit, Amazon Prime kind of sucks so I don't rate that as a bonus haha.

Urgh didnt notice the CGNAT.......  and the $10 a month for static blows the budget compared to what I have now :) Altho the joining credit obviously helps offset that....

Unless "someone" wants to offer a free static to avoid me whinging ;)

I switched to Stuff Fibre a couple of weeks ago. I'm not really a heavy user and it does what I need it to do. I mainly use it for streaming and VOIP with 2talk. If you want me to run some specific tests I can do it for you. They have IPv6, and don't have CGNAT, and my IPv4 address has stayed the same for the last two weeks.

If you signup via Broadband Compare then they have three months free on a 12 month contract. Suff Fibre also has a referral program which gives you 6 months half price, if you want I can flick you a code, but your probably better off taking 3 months free. My contract has a $99 termination fee, so if I quit after my free period I would be ahead, but I don't intend to do that.

Their website is fairly basic, and the signup process didn't give you the option to specify a transfer from an existing provider. It definitely pays to ring them up to confirm that it is a transfer after you sign up online, and the people I spoke to seemed efficient.

Sadly CG-NAT is going to come a more common occurrence as IPv4 allocation becomes more scarce my mate is a Senior Detective in the police force and is now relying on RSP's logging all NAT sessions to trace malicious activity

As for the end user experience the "average joe" won't notice a thing, but for geeks like us that run servers etc at home, and those who have VPN's that don't behave nicely behind a double NAT sessions its a huge pain in the backside!

I doubt they'd log all sessions, only those with a warrant against them. Or is that what you meant.

Yeah, I have server at home for mail/web, but too lazy to keep web updated, and shifting mail elsewhere. :)
