Yeah i crunched the numbers and i'm going about as fast as i can go latency wise from this distance.....until they figure out how to fold space.

Me too here in Invercargill, found that can fully max out 100mbps to virtually anywhere on the globe. It’s just not worth getting the gig at the moment.

I wonder if you were in Invercargill if you would be getting the same speeds to a speedtest server in Auckland.

Can't change the speed of light and thus the TCP RTT.

I'll give you the stats if 2d hurry up and offer hyper. I can max out 900/450 to Auckland no problem.

I don't really know, but it might have something to do with PPPoE being difficult at HF speeds?

Define compatible? It'll probably be able to connect. You won't get 4000Mbps through it to a single client, though. It doesn't have 10Gbps LAN ports.

Actually its got two, one 10GBASET and an SFP+, it looks like (?) you can define them to be LAN or WAN, so I'd say that would likely not be a bad device for hyperfibre. Would be better with some multi-gig but still not bad.

It is a surprisingly cheap device for 10G...

I thought you didn't need a router for hyperfibre and that all the routing was done on the ONT? you just need a supporting network behind it to utilise its multi gigabit speeds?

You do not need a router. The ONT has 1x 10Gbase-T and 4x 1Gbase-T ports, as well as 4x4 802.11ac. It is bridgeable but I was told you have to contact your ISP to arrange with Chorus to make the necessary changes on their end. I will say that the ONT GUI is not very featureful if you're used to something like pfSense, but it covers the basics.

Good catch. I can't see anywhere in the user manual showing you can do that though. It only mentions it has an SFP+ port. *shrug*

Right - the track record of Asus, Netgear and other "Consumer / Prosumer" router manufactures is pretty bad currently as there is actually not a single Wireless AX router from these manufactures that can route Gigabit yet alone 4-10Gbit. Then these manufactures pull this rubbish:

It is all marketing hype to get people to buy. I have zero faith this router will actually perform given Asus refuse to send me any to test after I said "I have a lab environment and put them through different tests". They kept trying to instruct me how to do my testing which would have proved flawed results.

Read this: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html

Save your money - the Chorus ONT can actually do 4Gbit fine and has OK WiFi from what I've heard.

Stay away from marketing rubbish, and stay away from Wireless AX in general right at the moment until the standard is final.

Hello @chorusnz and  @VygrNetworkMonkey September is tomorrow and I want to order this for me in Beach Haven so I can book the time off work for the ONT swap.

How to get this underway?
