That's looking real solid except for the upload and that one vodafone welly test.

This is just fantastic and a game changer.

New Starlink coverage tracker: Starlink Coverage Tracker

Nice site!  I suggested some of those ideas to satellitemap.space - like linking to ground stations.

Hope the developer improves things, like storing the home GPS co-ordinates as a Cookie rather than defaulting to Spain all the time :)

I suspect Starlink's signal range is greater than shown on this map though (and satellitemap.space too perhaps).  This guy apparently tried to put more 'science' behind the coverage on his map, though not so pretty - https://droid.cafe/starlink

Ah, the developer has a good write-up here - https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/mmw8ke/new_starlink_coverage_tracker/

But it's also not likely real-realtime?. But rather orbital data based on insertion and so on which then doesn't change unless they fall out?

Another batch was let go over the south Island about 4am yesterday morning too.

The last 5 or so launches have been right on the cusp of nz for release, and straight over us for the initial pass once re-orientated. Must help them align with the US for a mass downlink or something soon after.

They do update the orbital info for the satellites frequently, so it is 'live'.  https://satellitemap.space says this in its 'about' Map is live from latest observational data from space track dot org.  If you click on a satellite on satellitemap.space you will see how old its 'fix' is, and also how its altitude has changed over time - so its a lot more than just based on insertion data.  Using the same info he has a twitter account which tracks starlinks movements and dead satellites etc - https://twitter.com/starlink_map

I've registered with https://www.space-track.org/ and you can indeed download free satellite orbit data, which is updated frequently through an API.  This new website uses the same data as satellitemap.space (he's said so on Reddit).

The downside is Space Track sometimes takes a few days to include recent launches, so satellitemap.space in particular is a bit 'out of date' with the most recent launches.

Heaven's Above in comparison seems to add a 'place marker' as soon as a launch happens to estimate its position til it gets proper data from Space Track etc.  https://www.heavens-above.com/StarLink.aspx

I guess NZ is simply in the orbital inclination of 53-degrees from Florida - so we should see most/all of the launches come this way, just a case of which time so that the satellites fit into the constellation as everything rotates.

Just got the email "The Starlink team is preparing your order for shipment". Yipee! They have now activated the cell that includes North Christchurch/Kaiapoi/Ohoka, and I guess they will have activated other cells as well. Hence looks like they are expanding in NZ.

Trouble down at the chicken farm??  Vocus NZ in frame to build Whangārei satellite station

"The station, which will be based on a chicken farm near Ruakaka, has attracted considerable local opposition with signs erected along State Highway 1 in opposition."

Perhaps someone local could comment on the news article.  I thought the Puwera station was already built  (and some distance from Ruakaka)

@zenourn   Congrats on the shipment.  Look forward to a full report

Interesting article thanks, though I think it may be confused.  It links through to these articles too -

#1 - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/telco-giant-vocus-given-greenlight-to-build-whangarei-satellite-station/7YKEEBJYCW3FUCAOKBNNFFKO3E/

#2 - https://www.itnews.com.au/news/vocus-emerges-as-earth-station-builder-for-starlink-563117

Ruakaka seems to have been a separate development associated with geostationary satellites perhaps, more like that goes on with Invercargill currently.  I trawled through to find this article - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advocate/news/opponents-of-satellite-station-in-ruakaka-attend-fiery-meeting/IFBHT5EPMZ63SLBNKTNEX34A7I

The proposed Ruakaka dishes were 3m diamater.  The Puwera ones from article - "The satellite station antennas, perched up a hill, will be 2.7m high and 1.47m in diameter, supported by steel plinths, and contained within a round dome cover of 2.1m diameter".  Both those confirm the Puwera site is "land leased off Otaika Valley Free Range Eggs".

Yep. And the location is maybe 5 minutes south from the edge of Whangarei. Ruakaka is more like 20 minutes south.

Starlink now available in South Australia.  Another reason the whole of NZ should be due coverage 'soon' :)  Hopefully just as soon as Puwera is fully operational perhaps.

r/Starlink - Starlink going live in Australia!

I've got a SamKnows box and can route it over the Starlink connection when it arrives (current ETA ~20th). Just checked and they have Starlink as an option.

Australia is now live!  Customers have received their dishes and reporting speed tests.  Locations up to 35.2 degrees, meaning pretty-much the whole of NZ should be open for business 'now'.

SmaKnows has done a blog of the results that they are seeing overseas which gives a good idea https://www.samknows.com/blog/the-space-edition.

To quote the second paragraph

Elon Musk’s Starlink is offering superfast 150 Mbps broadband from a fleet of satellites in Low Earth Orbit. There are more than a thousand such satellites already in active service, providing extensive coverage across North America, Europe and other parts of the world. SamKnows’ early test results are in, and the performance is impressive – far better than anything we’ve previously seen from satellite broadband, better than 5G, even better than some ‘fibre’ lines.

Has anyone tried using a Vodafone Suresignal over Starlink yet? Is there any reason to assume it wouldn't work?
