We get the same data a bit faster. ISPs might need more capacity to deliver the data faster, and people may use more data - I may increase my cloud backups for example.

Personally I don't expect something for nothing. The ISPs might choose to provide this free, as an option, as another tier, not at all, or some other way. 2degrees has 100Mbps fibre for $90, 1000Mbps fiber for $106, so I'd expect this to come in at maybe $2-5 a month extra. I'd pay that, but it's not worth it to me to pay $16 a month for gigabit.

As long as they still offer 100Mbps at the same price. Thats all I need.

I live in a UFF area so wont be 'affected' by these changes, but i have noticed UFF starting to pre-nounce something.

Anyone know what it is?

Well that was underwhelming hype. Just a rebrand. https://tuatahifibre.co.nz/ultrafast-fibre-rebrands-as-tuatahi-first-fibre/

I was looking at changing to the 300 plan, but decided given Spark's pricing changes for 1Gb (as per the other thread) I'd move to that instead. 300 is still a pretty good speed offering though.

Looks like Voyager will be increasing speeds for customers without any price increase, at least for now.

Fibre broadband speed changes

Good news for those of you on fibre broadband – your fibre is getting faster! The majority of the Local Fibre Companies (LFC) that we deal with are making speed changes to some of their UFB product lines, which are due to occur from mid-November to mid-January. We've been advised that there should be minimal to no service disruption throughout this window.

During this time, your fibre connection will be automatically upgraded to the relevant speed; there's nothing for you to do! Voyager won't be changing our existing plans, pricing, or network configurations at this stage, so you won't notice any changes on your invoice yet. But don't worry, you'll still be getting the higher speed!

Due to these changes, we're also reviewing our broadband offerings, and we'll be sure to let you know of any further changes by March.

I wish they would list them...

Another UFF area customer who was hoping the 1st Nov UFF announcement was for 300Mbit, not just a name change :(

Convenient for Chorus and eligible customers....

Would suck for providers trying to sell one plan throughout the country though.

Now you need to address check first, then present speed/price options etc, different t&c's per region etc.

Personally, think it's a great idea and a way to cement the benefit over wireless broadband that providers are pushing hard.

This is already a thing, enable upped their 100/20 to 200/20 a couple of years back then raised it again in covid to 200/100. On most providers it shows as something like Canterbury special after you put in your address. But not all providers offer it, skinny do 200/20 and spark are still offering 30/20 as their baseline product but vocus seem to offer the full 200/100.

Yes, hence the at least for nowHopefully they are just buying time to see what the rest of the market does. I certainly don't intend to pay more.

Just received an email from Vodafone's Jason Paris about the upgrade & he said that

"The plan is to pass this through to the customers in the new year free of charge. Timing of the tech change is yet to be landed."
